I'm amazed at the number of people who still just unplugged directly their usb drive without unmounting or 'removing it safely' procedures... both under linux and windows...

data loss is high to flash drives (memory based) when unplugged without being unmounted. For mobile drives, considering that it is a disk based storage device, data loss is minimal. Though the possibility of getting a spike that would eventually damage the disk is still apparent.

try to figure out first if whether it's a data or physical damage or perhaps the problem is with the computer you're plugging it in..

if you're flash drive has a lead indicator then check it first.. if it does then try right click on "Your Computer" & choose "Manage" then go into the disk manager.. see if the flashdisk appears there.. if it does, see if you can assign it a letter..

if you use NTFS on your partitions, you could even choose to mount the flashdisk under a directory rather then give it a drive letter..

unpulging usb flash drives w/out unmounting through the safely remove feature wont damage the flash drive. just check if the usb drive u are plugging it in is not damage, coz damaged usb ports is common among clone computers
