@cardwell: it's not kendo, it's kenjutsu. kendo is modernized, sort of sport-based competitive martial art in the same category as karate, judo,iaido,kyudo (modern archery), and aikido. they fall in the category budo. Kenjutsu is traditional, old-school, non-competitive, non-sport, combative martial art. it falls on the same category known as Koryu or traditional. among traditional schools are, jiujutsu, iaijutsu, taijutsu, sojutsu, bojutsu, and kyu-jutsu.
