the more you try to bend the rules, the more you allow non fitting members to become a part of a tradition that has existed since time began. its like saying that "gay" or timid people could become a member of our countrys military. its like saying that obese people could join the NBA, its like saying that wrestlers dont need to be physically fit, do you all get the drift? its a standard operating procedure that was put there to make sure that everyone who makes it is can act what they have learned in the frat for the betterment of themselves and their country. its a pact we all hold dear, maybe the recent generations have gone too far but is it really fair to blame it on everyone? is it fair to assume that all blacks are thugs? you cant punish everyone just because sigma rho slipped, sigma rho doesnt represent all frats, they are just a part of the overall percentage so if the abolishment becomes law which i highly doubt, start with the ones responsible, the ones who started this whole issue.

i'm not for abolishing frat... it's basically a group, right na sa mga tawo...

but i wonder why some people like to join fraternities when you can have a normal circle of friends whom you can hang out and have fun with... and if you're talking about doing community services, there's like countless civic groups where you can join without having to go through considerable physical pain or juvenile embarassment...

I get your strong point against abolishing....but to say that the tradition keeps gay away from frats is too far gona a conclusion..what guarantees you that if one has gone through all the beating that he's not gay? After all, John Amaechi who admitted he was gay once played in the NBA which was supposed to be a men's world...truth is the tradition of vioelence does not necessarily weed out which people are unworthy of getting in a frat unless those you are admitting are those that can stand to witness violence, and what for? so they will be better prepared for all the frat-related violence of riots and rumbles?

I do not want frats abolished, just have them review their traditions and be open to change, be ready to admit that violence in fraternities are no longer needed, it goes too far out from its real purpose of brotherhood and total person development

Well what usually happens in this instances where no justice is given is we go back to the oldest of mans "traditions" older even than any fraternity "an eye for an eye..." revenge has always been man's solution to injustice, a place where the hitman gets its no. 1 rating as the worlds oldest profession.

Hehe add lang ko... i heard or read this from somewhere gi slightly modified lang nako .....something to think about.

P.S. must have been some historical anthropology books wheee i can read

    mga brods & sis,
dili angay i-abolish ang frats ug sororities uy! wa nalifong c mam miriam?! freedom of expression and organization gud ta sa democracy. apply the law more strictly nlng jud. naa na ta laws bahin ana, ang kuwang ra jud is implementation. any crime should be punished accordingly. if someone died of a hazing, then those responsible should be met w/ due process. ang nkapatay kasohan. ang frat nga involved, expelled sa school or community. that's it! simple! those frats dat operate lyk a gangsta cannot even come close to being called a frat anymore. more like thugs. Hazing? it will remain in most of the frat culture kung naa pay daghan diha neophytes nga mgpa tonto sa hazing.

Mas sayon ra man unta i.implement ang law about hazing kung klaro lng kung kinsa ang gukdonon if ever naa napod mamatay/mabun.og sa hazing.
It goes up to who is responsible sa panghitabo. Pro except ang unregistered or wa nailhan na organization.

abolish fraternities and sororities and the next thing that's on the list are those groups that are critical to the government. the freedom to assembly would be seriously violated, and along with that would be the freedom to express any grievance and the whole list of the bill of rights.

it is not the organizations that are at fault, per se, but the twisted sense of brotherhood; the feudal and oftentimes fatalistic notion of blind loyalty.

What we call chaos is just patterns we haven't recognized. What we call random is just patterns we cant decipher. What we can't understand we call nonsense. What we can't read we call gibberish. - Chuck Palahniuk

Bisan pa how many times we abolish the fraternities and sororities, It doesn't solve the problem kay ang problema is not the frat or sor but the people or member of that organization. Do you think na mahuman na ang away sa akrho og tau gammma if ma abolish ang frat dili lang gihapon.

Pareha ra gud na sa mga police naa mga badlunogn so ato sad diay na i abolish ang police? In every organization naa gyud na malahi but not all so dili nato i generalize. There's a lot of frat and sor who have make some contributions to the community as well. Kani nga mga problema is a police job so let the police do their job. Kay kani frat and sor pwerte na gyud dugaya ani karon lang nagkaproblema tungod sa new generation na member na mga badlungon.

the logic behind the abolition of fraternities and sororities comes in light of the fact that some people MURDER in the name of brotherhood. media hype or not, the fact still remains. some people die because of frat-related incidents.
