mao ba? European diay ka dong? ma syak man sad ta gud.
I wouldn't really say traffic is worse in India or Bangkok f I haven't been there, would I? Because that would make me an ignorant Filipino..
I am pretty well-traveled myself, if I may say, but maybe just too dumb to take an actual picture of the worst traffic jams or road situations I've encountered to maybe one day prove a point in a random forum..

well, hands down Manila may be the world's most congested city.. but remember Metro Manila is only a small city and it's no surprise that it is congested because of course, it is the capital city of the Philippines..

but I've encountered similar if not worse traffic in France (on holidays), UK, Germany, and Belgium.. but commuting/driving in India or Bangkok.. it's far far far worse than manila!

Capital cities don't have to be congested, Central London introduced tolls as a way of addressing the issue and the results have been pretty good as more people opt for public transport. Certainly the air quality is much improved.

My hope is that the BBC documentary (which I thought was very good) should serve as a wake-up call to the people and inspire a change in direction because nobody wants to live in a stigmatized place so let's build something together we can be proud of.

.. very funny. I'm not picking any random picture of Delhi.. where would I have gotten the idea of delhi driving worse than Manila. if you look closely at the picture, you will notice that many of the cars don't have side mirrors which contributes largely to the traffic situation in Delhi. Aside from that, there's the little motorcycle driven rickshaw (equivalent to tricycle sa atoa) that run on the highways.. I don't think we have that in manila or at least they are not for hire..
people overtake on blind corners. They swerve blindly in traffic. They come off side roads at full speed and join the traffic flow without even looking. a big part of it is driver discipline. Although daghan kaau ug buang2x na drivers.. they are not half as bad as those in India-- where the driving test is easiest in the world!
They stop on a whim in the middle of the road. They barrel down the middle of a narrow road playing chicken - forcing anyone smaller off on the shoulder. Expect anything, at any time. Nor will you believe road conditions. Sometimes people lie down and have a nap on the edge of the road.

I will never believe that anyone who has actually been to Delhi or Bangkok will say that Manila's traffic is worse..

OH come on.. why will you compare puny little Manila to mighty Central London? in any case, my point is Manila is not worst when it comes to driving and road situations.. so we all better learn to appreciate it and not talk it down by believing what other people say about us.. other people who probably capitalize on such ideas...

I'm not comparing anything to anything I simply pointed out that congestion isn't inevitable. The answer is simple.... effective mass-transit. Your talk of capitalizing on what other people think sounds paranoid and insecure.

If you feel so strongly that Manila has been misrepresented I suggest you take it up with the BBC as my overwhelming impression from the contributors on this thread is that the documentary was both valid and welcome. Frankly I can't be bothered to argue.
