mmm... i'm planning to buy a baby bearded dragon this week or the next.. i got a 29gal (30.4" L X 12.8" W) tank for the mean time, i'm wondering how much wattage do i need for the light and the basking lamp to reach the required temp? and does regular household bulbs generate UVB?
i'm planning to buy a mercury vapor bulb, so i'll only need one lamp fixture but it's quite expensive tho..
pls. enlighten me... tnx!

I USE MVB from Reptile UV, they have ensured the proper growth and health of my dragons. But if you want a cheaper way, you may setup a basking tank made of would and screen lang. make sure they get atleast a few hours of direct morning sunlight (maybe 6-9am) then put them back in their regular tank. make sure to put a hide box in their basking cage so they can hide if it's too much for them already.
Regular household bulbs can only provide heat.
I highly recommend a "reptile" uv lamp, wether it be repile uv mvb (which is heat+uv) or uv only and just use a regular heat bulb for basking.
For the wattage, get a temp gun or a thermostat toget actutal temps so you will know how hot the basking area is getting and how cold the cool area is getting.
As long as you dont have the tank in an aircon room, you dont need to maintain cool area, but youb still need to heat up basking area to about 90-100f.
Hope this helps here us the second mating video which I took this morning :

our room temp is set at 82°. i've already set-up the habitat but my problem is w/c bulb to buy. the ceramic lamp fixture cost about $10-20 but i'm going to buy a clamp lamp from a hardware shop. Bayco 150-Watt Incandescent Clamp Light - CE-300PDQ at The Home Depot
i'm planning to get this one 70watts Sunforce Mercury Vapor UV Bulbs For Reptiles. is this any good? what type of MVB do you use?

@doi: Where is your location? Because if you are in the US then you shouldnt have any problems looking for a good bulb.
Here is a forum that will help you out bai. It is dedicated to bearded dragons gyud.
Research about that bulb first before you buy it.
82° is a good temp for the cool area. For the basking area you need it to be higher, clamps will do.
When they were younger and I had no UV yet:
When they got older and I separated them already:
I measured the height of the lamp to get these temps:
This is my current setup:

I am sure you will have better luck there. Even Finding Calcium and Multivatamins for my dragons is hard here in Cebu. Have to order in Manila.
Aite good luck man!
