But as I have said, this is a free country and every one is not prevented from turning his back to their cause. Its up to San Juan and Bumidang really. If they think that what they are fighting for is wrong, that military being used in electoral fraud is fine (BTW, Hello Garci general Esperon is the new AFP chief!) then fine. If thats how weak they are in their resolve then nothing can be done about it. Its their call. Its up to them to fool themeselves.
Fooling themselves? i dont think so...I think he/they've made the right decision..by doing this, we may now proceed the steps of knowing the cause of this chaos and will be able to hear their beliefs to this present administration...if they have! and then Problem solve... Toppling the government is not really the answer to their problems...

For the news, incomming AFP chief of staff ( Lt. Gen. Hermogenes Esperon) has given his duty to crush this communist rebels and the groups who are palnning to destabilize the arroyo administration. With that the President want him to ensure the unity of the AFP in neutralizing all the detractors that will destabilize the national security.

While Esperon will surely be an enthusiastic enforcer of the President’s policies, his promotion can only be perceived as a case of personal loyalty trumping institutional interests. The decision of the President, whose legitimacy is under a cloud, to give a fourth star to an officer implicated in her questioned -- and questionable -- reelection bid only fosters the appearance that they’re partners in crime.

Esperson’s promotion will neither foster calm or even reconciliation within the ranks of a military agitated by allegations of senior officers participating in electoral fraud. It will not smoothen relations with Congress or assuage the fears, rightly or wrongly, in certain quarters that the administration is showing a marked interest in pursuing authoritarian solutions to its political problems. It will not enhance the prestige of the Armed Forces, or inspire confidence in the senior officer corps.

IN Spanish, “esperón” is a nautical term that means “ram,” and in the case of the next chief of staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Hermogenes Esperon, the meaning is appropriate. He is a decorated officer, widely respected, even admired for his achievements in the field. He is clearly no desk-bound general. He is aggressive. And he is undoubtedly intensely loyal to his commander in chief.

It is a sign of the times that Esperon is, even this early, already being compared in some quarters to the late Gen. Fabian Ver, who was also known for his intense -- even blind -- loyalty to his commander in chief, Ferdinand Marcos, to the extent that he became a cause of division within the military. Expertise and bravery in the field -- which Esperon has in spades -- are not essential for an AFP chief of staff. Administrative ability, a certain capacity for diplomacy and, most of all, integrity are the skills and virtues that the position requires.

how can you say he does not possess the abilities you are reiterating? have you ever been in the field where he came from?

I believed that in situations like this, like what you are trying to say or hardly wanna say, a Loyal Officer is needed. Officer like Esperon, ndi pa nga nagsisimula hinusgahan mo na, will undoubtedly serve his country to his full capacity and as according to your description,a widely respected, even admired for his achievements in the field, a clearly no desk-bound general, an aggressive, And is undoubtedly intensely loyal to his commander in chief, would always put his best feet forward in order to serve the people of the nation and sige na nga to impress the President. how about that?! The most powerfull person in the country has chosen him to once and for all end the root of all chaos in here means he has all the potential a leader could have in forming the country into its own shape.

Ang matalinong tao ndi magpapalinlang sa kung sino man o kung sa anuman ang nakikita nyang kaakit akit. We are given our freewill and its up to us where, when and how we will use it. If you failed, then you are called a FAILURE!

...And Marcos and Arroyo's administration are two different era...and so as Gen.Vier with Gen. Esperon...

What a right move from the goverment. I think it needs a full cooperation of every citizen of this country to fully stop this political problems we're going through...

"for what is at stake here is not only our political and economic security but our freedom and the life of our cherished democratic institutions"
I think its time for us to help make Philippines a better place to live in. Let's ask our politicians to stop doing things nga for their personal lang instead do things for the benifit of the entire Filipino. Isn't it nice for Philippines do import workers rather than export them?

OT: it's just a waste of time and effort replying to istoryador's last post 'coz it's not even his own. it was copy pasted from an editorial of INQ7 dated 14th of July 2006. I hope people would acknowledge the writers / authors by mentioning them as well as the media company they're connected with if and when they use part of their articles.. it's not that hard really.. but we can't do anything about it if they want to pass them as their own.. or they can always say "I'm sorry I forgot all about it", "I missed that 'coz I got busy" comments.. oh well..

    here's the link: click here

and here's part of that said editorial:

The larger question, though, is whether what is politically -- and militarily -- good for President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is good for the country or even the AFP.

It is a sign of the times that Esperon is, even this early, already being compared in some quarters to the late Gen. You guys are really superstitious, aren't you? You also have a twisted sense of right. For all your accusations against PGMA and Esperon, for all your rhetoric, nothing has been proven. On the contrary, even you are sensible of Esperon's being a widely respected and accomplished soldier. Lim, on the other hand, by his own admission has betrayed the very Constitution he was sworn to uphold, and yet you condone and even praise him?
