Well, our conciousness do resides in our brain. The brain could be analogous to my PC's processor while my conciousness could be the operating system. The two are of separate entity, considering that there are functions in my brain that most of the time I am not aware of, for example my sweat productions, heart beatings etc.

As long as the soul is still in temporal world it will remain dependent upon the brain. Why it is in the brain, well it is obvious why it was meant to be there. It seems the soul needs the brain to see a reality which is not really real. We are not even really here, it seems we are for a moment looking into what seems to be a 'real world' from outside of it. That the real things where simply at the 'back' of our minds all this time and in our lifetime we cannot turn around 'ourselves' to 'see' things which are Eternal. (Sorry for my babbling hehehe..just an idea)

I think that's a good idea. But I guess definitions vary from philosophy to philosophy and from religion to religion. This is just only an attempt.

- Plato prunes his definition to mind (reason); emotion and desire.

- The Aristotilean view varies in that it is said to be a "separate" entity.

- In Christianity, the soul in general is described as the consciousness that serves as the moral compass in each person. The seat of
conscience or moral awareness and is distinct from bodily existence in that the soul leaves after the body dies thus they are referred to
as the man's "soul" "spirit" or "ghost". Jewish also share similar concept of a spirit/ghost being post-mortem emanations however
distinguishes the soul to be the "life" or "livingness" of the person being God-breathed (Genesis).

Sa ako lang, ang soul is a state of consciousness... aka, the brain dictates everything from thinking to actually doing the things that the brain thinks. Like for example, my brain is dictating now... writing this post but consciously aware.

I believe both the body and soul are one in terms of idea but not literally in the cells of the skin.
