    Default Re: NBA 2007-08 Season

no i'm not comparing them to shaq and kobe... but they were the one's responsible for the 3rd and 4th title of the spurs... aside from duncan of course... ginobili is one of the most dynamic players in the league don't you think he deserves a little credit? and spurs also needed a good point guard in parker to win the championship... i think you know that...
you're not comparing them to Shaq and Kobe or Jordan and Pippen because 1) parker and ginobili simply don't belong in that category 2)Pop made the best of what he had and got 2 rings in the process 3)parker and ginobili would NEVER be mentioned in the same sentence with JORDAN and PIPPEN or SHAQ and KOBE by basketball purist.

besides, try taking out parker and ginobili and replace them with JORDAN. or try replacing both with KOBE. how many championships do you think a DUNCAN-JORDAN would have? or a DUNCAN-KOBE?

see? that's the magnitude of what Phil Jackson had to work with...

how many rings could pop have won if he was just coaching, and not the one responsible in selecting his own players?
I don't understand what you're talking about... kindly rephrase it. what's that got to do with my point?

Pop won 4 rings with what he had in San Antonio. he would have won 5 or 6 in Chicago with Jordan and Pippen, probably 3 or 4 in L.A. with Shaq and Kobe.

another question... could pop have won 3peat if he was the coach of the bulls or the lakers? do you think it was an easy feat for phil, just because he had jordan and pippen? or shaq and kobe? remember that pop did not won even a back to back championship with duncan and robinson.
so you're answering my question with another question.... hmmm...

3peat with either the Bulls or the Lakers would be difficult but 5 championships, at least, in Chicago would be a conservative estimate. 3 championships in Los Angeles would be attainable. the question is, would Phil have won 4 championships in San Antonio with what Pop had? that's the point.

    so do the math.

that's why I said it time and time again that it's unfair to compare Phil and Pop as far as their accomplishments go. Phil had JORDAN, PIPPEN, KOBE and SHAQ while Pop only had Duncan and Robinson.

to the question on how many rings would phil have if he had coached the spurs... well, i would have to say probably 2 and that would be a back-to-back championship with duncan and robinson. but thats just my own speculation of what if... hehehe!

there you go. you just proved my point.

one difference between phil and pop is that pop is a president and a coach... he gets to pick and choose his own players... depending on who he think is the best fit his existing team... this is one advantage popovich have with the spurs... that is why he won another 2 after robinson retired. phil on the other hand don't have that full luxury... of being able to choose who is to come and go. this may be one of the reasons why he live the lakers after they traded shaq... (he wasn't happy with the decision.)

^ that's my point. you've just answered why it's not fair to compare Phil and Pop as far as championship rings goes.

my point is very simple, that Pop could have won 7 or 8 championships easily with Phil's players in both the Chicago Bulls and the Los Angeles Lakers. so there should be no comparison made in the first place 'coz like you said Phil would only win 2 games with the San Antonio Spurs.

winning 7 or 8 championships with those players mentioned doesn't necessarily mean that you are a better coach than the other. having legendary players makes that accomplishment a lot easier.

the "CHANCE" to coach JORDAN and PIPPEN / SHAQ and KOBE was given to Phil Jackson and he made the best out of it. I wouldn't disregard other coaches' achievements 'coz we won't know what they'll do with their "CHANCE". they would probably fall short OR they would have won 10 or more IF given the same opportunity.

    who knows?

it doesn't matter what the title is: President, General Manager, Head Coach etc etc... it doesn't matter what they propose, what they think is the best for their team, who they wanna let go or keep, who they wanna sign or trade or whatever.

ultimately, the LAST and FINAL WORD comes from the TEAM OWNER, neither of which Phil Jackson and Greg Popovich is...

so there's no comparison to begin with in the first place... catch my drift?

Shaq will still not be playing for the Suns. There were speculations that he'll suiting up for the Suns late this week but some rumors say that the Suns will field him in in their game against the Lakers, something to really look out for.

In their second game after sending Shawn Marion away, the Phoenix Suns hit 32/32 free throws against the Seattle Super Sonics and were just a free throw away to tie the franchise record for most free throws without a miss. Amare Stoudemire hit 15/15 and were 2 free throws away for tying the individual record for free throws without a miss.

    Marion's Miami debut

Shawn Marion statline for his first game with the Heat: 15 points, 14 rebounds, almost 45 minutes of action.

Los Angeles Lakers 104, Miami 94. Lamar Odom outplayed Marion in their small forward match-up. Odom finished with 15 points and 18 rebounds.

It all started with Stu Lantz and Joel Myers (Lakers commentators) when The Machine dropped 19 vs the Bulls this year. Then it caught on with fans when Sasha was becoming consistent esp sa 3pts. Even P-Jax started calling him that.
