spurs' play is so WNBA-like... hehehe! you criticize the play of the lakers? how many championships does popovich have? 4? compared to the championship rings phil jackson have for creating those "monkey plays"? he has 9 CHAMPIONSHIPS!!! see the math? you don't have to play as boring as san antonio to win championship rings... I don't think it's fair to compare Phil and Pop as far as the number of rings are concerned.

but for the sake of argument, let's all try to be neutral and analyze how Phil got his 9 rings as well as how Popovich got his 4. have the two coaches switch teams and see who'll get the most rings right now. let's not forget: Phil had the "greatest basketball player of all time" in his line-up for 8 plus years.

Pop only had one superstar in his last two championships while Phil had BOTH Jordan-Pippen in his 9 years in Chicago as well as BOTH Shaq-Kobe in his 8 years in L.A. If that's not a lopsided comparison, then I don't know what is....

Phil Jackson: 9 NBA Championship Rings (Head Coach Bulls 9 years 1989-1998 / Lakers 8 years 1999-200

6 in Chicago with Jordan and Pippen
3 in L.A. with Shaq and Kobe

Greg Popovich: 4 NBA Championship Rings (Head Coach Spurs 12 yrs 1996-200

2 in San Antonio with Duncan and Robinson
2 in San Antonio with Duncan

Pop was disappointed 1)because Gasol went to the Lakers for nothing -Kwame- 2)same conference as his team 3)most head coaches on winning/losing teams didn't see the logic of the trade.

if it was for "expiring contracts / money" then why not trade Pau to Eastern Conference teams like what happened to recent trades: Garnett (west to east) and Shaq (east to west).

mao sad wa jud logic...mura na hinuon gi tabangan sa Grizzlies ang Lakers para mka kuha ug championship... unya sila walay nakuha kung naa man gani...gamay ra kaau...gi uto uto ra man tingali ang Memphis sa L.A.

    tsk tsk

memphis said... that kwame's contract is the biggest expiring contract available... that's why they went for the trade... reklamo si popovich for personal interest sa iyang team. kung ok pa to ang memphis nga i-trade si gasol sa spurs for oberto, then wala siyay reklamo...

@omad: don't forget to include manu and parker in the 2 championships spurs won after robinson... they are both all star caliber players... although manu was definitely a steal fo them, because he was taken from a 57th pick or something...

roster by roster lakers had an advantage. but when it comes to team play, defense and fundamentalism, i love the spurs.

Even w/out Bynum, I'm sure maglisod ang Spurs. The Lakers are now tough to beat because of Pau. But I know the Spurs will rise to the occassion once again, as always.

@omad: don't forget to include manu and parker in the 2 championships spurs won after robinson... they are both all star caliber players... although manu was definitely a steal fo them, because he was taken from a 57th pick or something...so you are comparing ginobili and parker to these names: JORDAN, PIPPEN, KOBE and SHAQ?

    are you kidding?

those are the elite of the elite, in fact JORDAN, PIPPEN, ROBINSON and SHAQ were voted to the 50 Greatest Basketball Players in NBA History in 1996 while KOBE and DUNCAN were added to that list as the Next 10 Greatest Players in 2006. so you already know why I didn't mention those names in my example?

so you are mentioning ginobili and parker in the same sentence with JORDAN, PIPPEN, KOBE and SHAQ? looks to me like either you're not doing your basketball homework or you don't know your basketball altogether.

so back to my question, how many rings would either Phil or Pop have if they both switched teams?

no i'm not comparing them to shaq and kobe... but they were the one's responsible for the 3rd and 4th title of the spurs... aside from duncan of course... ginobili is one of the most dynamic players in the league don't you think he deserves a little credit? and spurs also needed a good point guard in parker to win the championship... i think you know that...

to the question on how many rings would phil have if he had coached the spurs... well, i would have to say probably 2 and that would be a back-to-back championship with duncan and robinson. but thats just my own speculation of what if... hehehe!

a good question could also be... how many rings could pop have won if he was just coaching, and not the one responsible in selecting his own players?

and another good question... could pop have won 3peat if he was the coach of the bulls or the lakers? do you think it was an easy feat for phil, just because he had jordan and pippen? or shaq and kobe? remember that pop did not won even a back to back championship with duncan and robinson.
