Life will never get back to normal if there's no normal life to get back to. There will come a time when lockdowns become more harmful than the virus and people would rather choose to take their risks with the virus than stay home and starve to death.

This pandemic is unprecedented in Philippine history in terms of scope and severity kuno (1-2% mortality or even less), and everything the government is trying is a first-time. It would therefore be wise for our government to proceed with flexibility and circumspect and not be arrogant and blame their failures on the people.

Both you guys have great points. The only concern is the validity of the actual virulence of the virus that espouses the global economy collapse.

• When Italy & Spain employed forensic medical experts, the death rate changed and now eyeing to slowly open back in May.
• Sweden doesn't give a damn yet they aren't hit as hard as the former two, not even close.
• Germany is only doing anti-body testing and resumed operations for businesses while encouraging everyone to wear masks, death rate looked pretty normal.
• All Nordic countries are on lockdown, but their lockdown definition is entirely different than ours—they only closed their borders.
• Hungary went full totalitarian but they didn't shut down their economy. Daily life remains normal.
• Japan requests all citizen to be vigilant, no lockdown because their constitution says the gov't has no control over its people.
• South Korea, no economic shutdown, rapid testing everyone even with high false positive rate, reopens school and churches.
• Aus & NZ have a very European response and their society are unfazed.

Then you have ASEAN nations where only the Philippines (105m pop) and Indonesia (265m pop) are being diluted by this so-called pandemic. The only two Asian countries who are willing to crumble its own economy in order to prove something to world. Crab mentality is full on display and citizens even clap to the abuse of police power. smh.

And of course, the US, 49k deaths. Nobody knows how and why but everyone including the Yanks themselves are starting to doubt the numbers posted by the TV and facebook. That is as much as Madison Square Garden can accommodate in any given concert, yet not a single corpse in sight. Even NY State funerals are wondering why their operations are halted specially if you look at the rising death rate the media is recording. If anything, funeral homes should be the busiest right now, however, that's not the case there. And then their unemployment soared to 29 million in under one month.

It's not about Phillipines only, but about each country in particular. The problem is that the countries are poor is lack (from economic point) lack of means of production, so the only way is to develop stable state institutions (politics, protection of private property, etc.) and attract investment. The main thing is that the state does not fall into the trap of average income.

Education that all can have, if it doesn't solve the poverty completely it should alleviate it. Being creative and thinking for other ways on how to survive is one of the abilities a Filipino has.
