If there's one person who could've gone to greater heights if Michael Jordan was not present, it's Karl Malone. IMO, Karl Malone is the next best to Jordan but unfortunately, both existed at the same time. "The Mailman" is a perfect combination of strength, speed and consistency. For almost a 1 1/2 decade, Malone was a consistent 20 points per game performer and averages a consistent double-double and hits about 50% from the field. He's also among the league's very rare "ironmen" along with fellow Jazz teammate John Stockton. Speaking of elites, it was Malone who turned the Jazz into an elite and one of the few feared teams in the NBA. Utah barged in consistently in the playoffs with Malone despite having a not so good line-up compared to West teams like Houston, Phoenix, Seattle and even Portland during the 90's.

Speaking of "heir", I'd pick Shaquille O'Neal as the closest to Jordan. O'Neal's got his own share of NBA titles, individual awards won and also has created much hype during his NBA and basketball career. Both Jordan and O'Neal are dominant in their own ways. And also, both are not just basketball icons, they're also role models both in and out of the court.

yep I agree, when comes to dominance and Hype, shaq is the perfect heir... he was the most feared big man. like mike who was the most feared guard when he was in his prime.

but when you speak of consistency Tim Diuncan has my vote he is the closest to jordan.

he has been named all nba first team and all nba first defensive team since 1998. and no other player has done that not even Kobe and Shaq........

Tim Duncan has actually showed signs of slowing down lately. Could it be due to his past injuries, maybe with age or the Spurs are simply relying on Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili's running game. The good thing about Duncan is that he's got really good grounded fundamentals and is a perfect team player. With the sudden rise of Tony Parker, it might not be too long before Tim Duncan will take the backseat, just like what happened to David Robinson when Duncan rose to stardom.

Duncan is one of the very few players who thinks "team first before self" and he rubs such an attitude to his teammates. As long as Tim Duncan is with San Antonio, the Spurs will be among the NBA's top teams.

    Lebron's very close...

Have you ever wonder what wud happen to the cavaliers if Larry Hughes is healthy? I mean Larry was awesome the season before he joined the cavs... not close to pipen tho but still a healthy Hughes cud have made a BIG difference to the cavs and spurs championship... maybe another jordan-pipen combination...

Nah, maybe increasing the chances of Cleveland winning a single finals game and avoiding a sweep but beating the Spurs in the best-of-7 series? Di kaya sa Cavaliers.

Kulang pa experience and championship smarts ang Cavs, although I rooted for them the past Finals, kay nahan ko daug ang underdog and I was impressed with how Lebron can carry his team..pero Duncan, Parker, Ginobili, Bowen, Horry and the rest of the Spurs were just too much for them...2-3 years maybe they can win a championship
