Default Re: Filipino Dumog vs. BJJ Grappling

sinyalan, now you are talking about fighting strategies and mindsets, im sure with any good fighter with the desire to survive, those things you mentioned would also be on his mind, those combat strategies you mentioned are also taught well in krav maga and other sickk!!!! martial arts.

what im saying is, that grappling will always be grappling, be it dumog, jujitsu, greco, there will be small variations, like ripping, hairpulling, eyegouging biting, clawing, etc. but the basin moves and positions will never change, maybe the names might change but the basic moves and positions wont,

in wrestling, they call it a body scissors, in BJJ its called guard, etc etc.. but still the basic positions in controlling another human body will always be the same, in dumog they have the mount(i dunno if its called the mount) in wrestling its called (top) saddle (?) position.

japanese jiu jitsu moves are similar to brazilian jiujitsu moves, also i saw a 1980 documentary on indian martial art Kalari, and guess what?? they have arm drags, kimura, keylocks, arm bars and many others too (this was way back when BJJ wasnt popular at all)... my point is. ang pag dumog dumog sa lawas sa tao. ang pag inflict ug damage sa human body, everything is the same in principle.

    OT .

I will never fight multiple attackers. I will never fight a single attacker. gusto ko peace. di ko nahan gubot, di gani ko ganahan kanang argument.

Di ba ang point nato sa forum is to discuss whatever is possible? theories, factual or reality solution? Strategies are part of solving the issues di ba? So, ang implications nako that it wouldn't be the end in just giving up the full extent of someone attacking you in multiple opponents. Kung ang mindset is that we have to give up because "multiple attackers" win and you don't... and no other options to survive then, wa gyud. As for me, I'll go for other options to make myself alive and live to eat rice next day. hehehehe.

Pila na ka years sa Krav Maga, chocomai? When I was in Florida (4 years back) I happen to have a brief student from the local police force in St. Augustine, FL unya he had been trained in Krav Maga for 8 years. What I like about the system was the it's pretty similar to our FMA although they're good in gun disarming and retention and bone breaking attacks... I played his game couple of times and mind you he liked what I have presented on our own version of combative awareness. I think we can do alot of things together if I stayed there for long in Florida.

im not trained in krav maga, i only noticed that its principles and its foundation is very similar to what you say dumog is. the fight strategy, the mental approach.

OT: im not even trained in BJJ(officially), or in dumog, im not bashing any martial arts or any style(samot na kng FMA) what i am saying is, that in most martial arts, principles and ideas intertwine, there is no exclusivity in most ideas in martial arts, when u look at somebody grappling the dumog way or the bjj way, the basic moves will always be the same. you cannot "versus" the styles. there will be "significant" points where we can identify a style as "dumog" or "BJJ" where it becomes 'original' but they all revolve around the same practical principles

bitaw strategies og mindsets naman ni ato padolngan.. di ta mag discuss ani kay di mani exclusive sa any art ang ato mga strategies. pero thanks sinyalan sa imong strategy gi mention kay sounds logical (if its the last resort). like bro chocomai, id not risk my life fighting scums. but i like to learn BJJ to fight in tournaments with other professionals, or students, but not scums in the streets.

    Back to topic nata,
ang topic is Dumog vs BJJ "asai nahan ninyo?" "which 1 do u like"

Oppss, abi man gud nako nga trained ka sa Krav Maga... sori brod chocomai. As for the "versus" thingy, What I meant was "comparisons"... versus seems generic in term because we all know that there will be comparisons if you met a Dumog practitioners... case point, if meet them or even met one, the mentality is full of dirty tricks - if you happen to go on the mat with one them, open minded will go a lot of ways. Give and Take. Because Dumog players (like all martial artist) will always evolve. IMHO, playing on both sides will give you so much action in the ring... there's BJJ I can use tungod sa safety rules. Ug out sa streets, Dumog goes all the way. As for me, not all the time someone will ask you to fight diha sa ring... so, as with my "little" knowledge in dumog, I'd choose Dumog.

ok cge hapit nya sa amo ha. it will be an honor to learn from you (international standards baya ka). we want to learn as much as possible. bisan gikan pana sa wrestling, judo, FMA nga techniques. pero mainly BJJ amo praktis didto kay mag gi man mi usually.

sinyalan, please do share, para ma improve pud ang among grappling diri mga bisaya. i agree with kyla(jim), it will be an honor learning from you, bsan asa pana gikan, wrestling judo FMA, basta lang makat on mi. and the doce pares and labangon locations are just different venues, whichever is accessible to the people, we are basically one.

3 years ago, i went to doce pares and asked if there was a dumog class(martial arts) ana sila wala daw nag tudlo ana. and after that, BJJ nako napunta.

white belt mi tanan, (except 2 or 3 guys), because nobody is giving out belts here in cebu. we just practice and gain experience until the time a school opens up here in cebu
i have long been interested with dumog (back when i read an article about dumog in Blackbelt mag featuring Paul Vunak, a student of inosanto and an 'expert' in FMA) but its practicaly impossible to get taught dumog because its so hard to find, especially FMA knife fighting and small joint manipulations, ive also seen Vee Arnis Jujitsu(FMA), and its standup grappling to takedown is so brutal, and i wanted to learn. I noticed, that many of the FMA masters are not even living in Pinas anymore, a business decision i guess. they go where they make a good living. thats why dumog nowadays is soooooooooo popular in other countries but not in pinas

Kyla, chocomai... dili pa ko imported intawon mga ondo! hehehehe... bisaya gihapon ko. The dumog I learned was from the Kalibo expert - expert I said because he doesn't want to be called master - personal reasons tingali. Ang dumog akong nakat-unan is purely pinoy - not mixed or taken sa mga puti. Paul Vunak iis good FMA practitioner apan ang iyahang stilo sa dumog is more on curricular. Meaning by the numbers. Gituyo nila ni kai, aron makatudlo sila sa dumog. I met Paul V couple of times didto sa Singapore and he seems a nice guy but the training compared to us pinoys has a big difference... meaning, telegraphic kaayo ang movements mura ug hugot kaayo ang mga bolts and nuts. His training in FMA is paterned sa JKD. Mix and Match iya stilo. Pagunita ug sticks... bakikaw kaayo.. hehehehe. But he's good person... no more no less.

Sus, asa ba gud ta mahimong international standards nga pinoy man kaayo ko ug kina-iya. Akong training isn't tainted unya the dumog you all see sa link http://youtube.com/watch?v=G-6CfNjflxY is practically the same because the Pekiti Tirsia guys train the same way... mao lang nga there is slightly difference kay ilahang training is Jungle warfare not Urban warfare... Mao nga daghang nakat-on ug BJJ because of surprise attacks from the back... dumog on the other hand if applied on jungle warfare is more on mass attack... standup and ground fighting with weapons. Akoa is just for street awareness kay akong mainstream FMA is Balintawak... street savviness.

    Sige, puhon kita unya ta.
