MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine government on Wednesday received the initial batch of BMW cars to be used during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) leaders' meeting here in November.
In a symbolic ceremony at the Malacaņang grounds, the Asian Carmakers Corporation (ACC) turned over the vehicles to Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. and the APEC National Organizing Council.
The official importer and distributor of BMW in the Philippines, the ACC will be providing a fleet of over 200 BMW 5 Series and 7 Series vehicles that will be used to transport ministers and world leaders during this year's ministerial-level meetings and during the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting.
During the turnover ceremony, Ochoa said the Philippine hosting of APEC supports the government's efforts in driving economic growth here and in the region by building sustainable and resilient economies, promoting investments in human capital development, encouraging the participation of small and medium enterprises in regional and global markets, and enhancing the economic integration of the region.
"The Philippine hosting of APEC will culminate in Manila during the Economic Leaders Meeting in November, in which Asian Carmakers Corporation will be the exclusive partner and provider of vehicles for our world leaders whom we are proud to host and provide only with the best of the best that the country has to offer," Ochoa said.
"May this ceremony serve as a reminder of our partnership, one which is strongly committed to becoming a driving force in 'Building Inclusive Economies, Building a Better World,'" he added, citing this year's APEC theme.
