Can you do a BIOS update with a dead CMOS battery?

kinda noob question-
I got an old laptop (Compaq v3000) and apparently to solve an inherent overheating problem, the bios needs to be updated to remedy a bug that's causing heat and fan issues. Now my concern is , it seems that my CMOS battery is dead (date and time always resets every reboot, etc). Can i still do a Bios update with a dead CMOS batt, or i need to have it replaced first?

^ pwede ra bro but you need to connect your notebook's power adaptor to the AC outlet... after nimo ma flash ang BIOS, the same thing will happen. after mag shutdown ka. mag change napud ka's date and time if ganahan ka'g current info sila...

ang delicado ra sa BIOS or EEPROM flashing kay kun mawala ang power... if naa power, ma flash ra man nya ang data sulod sa EEPROM... then you must change the battery pud para naa sya back-up power to retain the variable info like the date & time...

in a layman's term diay and comparison... an EEPROM IC's storage is like a nano or pico or smaller size SSD (but read only lang ang data)... naa ra nya ang data bisan wala'y power. ang gamit sa battery kay back-up power mana para sa clock...

if you cannot proceed in solving an issue tungod lang sa dead cmos battery, then, nganong dili naman lang ko mopalit og cmos battery oi? barato ra man na.

i wouldnt gamble flashing that, bsin corrupted palang hinuon na bios samot d jd hinuon na mu boot. i replace sa na ang batt, and if ma resolve ang initial reset date/time problem, padaun flash.

i had many times flashed mobo's EEPROMs na need na'g replacement ang battery... so far, ok ra tanan... mga oldies mobo to sila... wla lang ko maka timing ug brownout... wla ko'y ma share na experience na ilisanan ang battery then nag flash unya na wla ang power... if mag duha2x si TS, ok ra nang gi suggest ni bro werty para peace of mind... ako, naa man ko handful of experiences na ok ra maong, relax ra ko... hehehe...

^ daghan ka'g experience bro werty kay its a part of your work (if sakto ko na part sa work nmo)... akoa, hobby ra ni nako even i had more than 2 decades of experience on this passion.. na undang lang ko'g pamalit ug HW for 3+ yrs kay nag focus ko's cycling. but it didn't stop me sa pag kuri2x... but as i've said, wla ko ma patyi ug mobo during flashing even they need a battery replacement... dili ko makig lalis sa inyohang experience... i've got mine to share... you got yours too and again, mas daghan pa'g hands on experience nako ang mga technicians or nag part time as techs... timing lang siguro na wla ko naka experience ug naka problema... pero, dili naman pud ma ihap sad... maybe, just maybe, the sun is shinning on me... dili ta mag lalis sa experience, better na, share lang ta... then ang reader na ang mo decide... anyway, its their decision man in the end...

sa tanan experiences nato... the "Johari Window" is on the works... this is a fact of life...

highly appreciated inyu mga advice mga sir. Nag ask lang ko in the event na maglisud kog kuha sa CMOS battery. But in any case, its good to know in theory ok ra bisan wala nay CMOS batt. By the way, asa inyu store inyu ma recommendad palitan ug CMOS batt? thanks

@Poor_Prince23 generally almost all nga naa available nga bat sir ok rah, but if I remember correctly.. naa q nabasahan ngari nga nindot daw ang cmos bat sa TrueValue sa Ayala kay energizer ang ila bat..
