Well, I personally do not know about anything in particular with regards to whether someone in this site has already opened up this topic but I'd rather try opening it up if it hasn't been.
I was goofing around for quite sometime now after my sister had finished her final exams and was wondering what could I possibly do since I was already bored to death trying to find ways on how to resolve some issue about booting by doing some work on the pc itself. Luckily, I was able to solve this issue by using GRUB bootloader installed and now my pc works very fine, switching from one O.S. to another from time to time--thanks to the reply to one of my posts here in istorya. Anyway, now that everything works as great as I have expected it to be, its time for some exploration..
You know guys, for the past couple of weeks that I've been watching the anime series, "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya", I've quite noted the fact that somebody from that show was able to type in Japanese using an XP computer. Not only that. The options that pop out of context menus (menus that pop out when you right-click on anything) have been apparently using Japanese text, which I think would have been more convenient for the Japanese people to understand, as it was their own language. Quite the contrary, most of the Japanese people that I know of (a couple of friends of mine) used an English version XP. I was never exposed to using such kind of writing style, though, it might have been better to have used one as it would be easier to talk to them, since they know of their own language too well. You see, my Japanese friends are having a hard time trying to cope up with English texts coz Japanese people are Japanese writers and that means they'd be more efficient if they used the Japanese alphabet. English is really a tough thing for them (well, I don't mean to discriminate Japanese people here as there are also some who really excel in American English) knowing that they'd have to study two kinds of languages, and two kinds character sequences as well.
The difficulty of studying just the Japanese language itself, including the study of Kanji, which is a very, very complicated process, is currently causing stress to their busy minds. Then try adding more to study, like for instance, study English, which is a totally different and a totally new experience for them. It's quite a task, isn't it?
Then I found out just this morning something cool about Microsoft's support for East languages. It *was* there all along. I haven't really talked to them (my friends, just in case anyone's confused) about this thing however I'm still trying to know all the capabilities of this language support and testing it on a whole variety of programs and websites.
Here's a sample below. It should translate to "I am your friend." and is read as "Watashi wa anata no tomodachi des." Hope you can see it, I'm not really sure though:
Katakana:
ワタシ ワ アナタ ノ トモダチ デス。
Hiragana:
わたし わ あなた の とも*ち です。
