Two Chairs

Dust permeates through
the crevices of the wooden chair
Like roots of plants, gently
percolating through passageways
deep within the moist earth.
The crevices seemed to have multiplied
while I was imprisoned in oblivion
Totally caught unaware with the inevitable
elusiveness of time.
How long has it been since I last saw
iridescent traces of you?
I lost track while your goodbye
was forever left in my heart
Like seeds embedded
in the hard recesses of my being.
You said goodbye is a universal truth
we both will have to face.
When loving and caring will be like a distant star
Lacking luster, lacking heat
Yet ever present in the sky.
I sat on the chair and gently rocked it.
The creaking resonance
ever pervades my consciousness,
Inviting me to splurge and indulge
in my distant memories of you.
How I long for your return,
For us to be together again,
For us to reminisce about the past
That have become memories
forever rustling in the gentle wind.
This constant rocking
a rehearsal trapped in vain
Will soon have to end
Even as two chairs continue
to be placed side by side.
