September in Cebu embodies the spirit of fun journeys with a month-long celebration of travel: Lakbay Lingaw takes you on a Heritage Walk (Pasiyo sa Kabilin) of the city’s storied centuries-old landmarks, retracing our forefather’s steps in the midst of a modern city. The tour may be punctuated with concerts at the Plaza Sugbo, after all we are a musical people.
Cebu City also opens an unprecedented Highland Tour, introducing mountain adventures in its hillylands, which comprise 80% of the city’s total land area. And if a bit of sand under your toes is what makes a fun journey, the Suroy-suroy Sugbo (Tour Cebu) brings you to the outskirts of the city and to the island’s coastal towns with their pristine white beaches, river tours, mangrove forests, and waterfalls.

The caves of Cebu City were part of the historic landmarks during World War II. Surrounded by mountains and thick forests, the caves of Brgy. Sudlon were ideal hideouts of local heroes fighting against the Spanish dictatorship.
Guining Falls in Barangay Tabunan
The Guining Falls is located in the forested area of Barangay Tabunan.
According to the Barangay folks, the barangay got its name from the Tabon bird also known as Tabon scrubfowl or Philippine Scrubfowl (Megapodius cumingii) - heavy bodied, ground dwelling birds which are a common sight in the area in the past. The bird itself was called for its behavior of covering its nest with bits of grass and dried leaves or rotting vegetation. The Cebuano word for 'cover' is 'tabon'.
The falls, as told by the locals, originates from a cave or cavern spring. The area surrounding the waterfalls is a popular pit stop for nature trail hikers and nature lovers.
Betty's Botanical Garden
Betty's Botanical Garden, in Barangay Tabunan, grows a variety of flower species, and endemic plants and trees, is a perfect stop for plant lovers. The botanical garden features rare and exotic flowers - including those that used to be endemic in the area but are no longer found in the wild today.
Bombahanan Cave
The Bombahanan Cave, located in Barangay Sudlon Uno, is aptly named since the underground formation is a wellspring - 'bomba' which is a Cebuano word for 'pump'. The word 'bombahanan' loosely translates to 'a place where water is pumped from'.
The cave, as described by the locals, is a "comfortable crouching space and slippery walk" with its ceiling naturally adorned with stalactites and its openings are fitted with steel steps for convenient exploring.
