A different kind of bistro has come to the Queen City of the South!

Monkey’s Belly Bistro Bar is the first of its kind in Cebu. Established by Monkey’s Forehead Pte. Ltd., a hospitality and consultancy in Singapore, Monkey’s Belly introduces different kinds of dishes and cocktails not found anywhere in Cebu. All food and drinks menu have been specially designed and created to bring a unique experience to Cebuanos.

Samuel Cheow Je Min, owner and chef, introduced us to some of their uniquely distinct recipes only available at Monkey’s Belly Bar Bistro.

The Peanut Butter Burger was worth trying. It is the only one of its kind in Cebu and even in Singapore. Since peanut butter is a personal favorite, Samuel wanted to create this different kind of burger because he believes peanut butter can be eaten with anything. He was definitely right. Their Peanut Butter Burger was definitely delicious!

He also introduced us to other dishes such as Spring Wings and Golden Aburi Broccoli. Spring Wings are deep fried chicken wings, named Har Cheong Gai in Singapore, glazed in shrimp paste and special seasonings, while the Golden Aburi Broccoli is a kind of dish which uses the traditional Japanese method of cooking Salmon Aburi, giving the broccoli a light smokiness everyone will love.

With the drinks, Samuel introduced Monkey’s Special, a special kind of chocolate mocktail with slices of banana chips everyone of all ages will love, and S’more Cocktail, a unique cocktail inspired by Singapore’s recent craze with S’mores waffles. Monkey’s Belly also offers beers, liqueurs and spirits.

Samuel aims to expose Cebuanos to a different kind of bistro experience without shelling out lots of money.

“We keep the prices of our food and drinks as low as possible since I see many bars here in Cebu very overpriced. As there are more people getting better jobs and travelling more often, many are inclined not only to beers but to cocktails and spirits. It has been a trend in Singapore five years ago and we want to have the same trend in Cebu five years from now,” Samuel added.
