“Linamnam 2” Culinary Travel Guide Book rolls out with Cebu’s best cuisines

Foodie couple Claude Tayag and Mary Ann Quioc continue their journey as they spread the taste of Filipino cuisine around the Philippines through the second edition of their bestselling book entitled “Linamnam: Eating One’s Way Around the Philippines.”

This time, the latest edition of their book features fourteen of the best of Cebu cuisines including Zubuchon, NL Café, Chicka-an sa Cebu, Azul Tuslob Buwa (pig’s brain in goo), Café Laguna, Tatang’s Extra Crispy Skin Lechon Food court, among others.

Linamnam’s second edition is a collection of the best food from all over the Philippines and the restaurants that serve them.

In "Linamnam," not only do they lead the reader to the best eats in every region, scouring the length and breadth of the archipelago, but they also learn the why's and how's of what makes each dish unique and outstanding in its own right.

As staunch keepers of the flame of traditional Philippine cuisine (albeit leaning to Kapampangan), the couple discovers the sheer variety and intricacies of this multi-layered cuisine, making it easier for the uninitiated to understand what makes the Filipino eat what he eats, and debunking the pronouncements of armchair pundits that Filipino cuisine is all brown, oily, and unappetizing. Indeed, there's more to it than the adobo, pancit, and lumpia.

The more than 300-page book is not just a culinary guide, it also explores you to the historical insight into the food you eat and feed you information from different cuisines.

Meanwhile, Margaux Salcedo of the Sunday Inquirer Magazine shared that “Claude and Mary

Ann Quioc-Tayag are the “it” couple of the foodie scene in Manila. This knowledge is both vast and deep, exploring varieties of favorite Filipino specialties like lechon, aligue (crab fat), or Philippine vinegar (suka) across the various regions of the country.”

Some readers of the Linamnam’s first edition refer to the book as a guide for travel destinations, too.

During the book signing at the SM City Cebu event center, chef Tayag clarified that the book is not about the authors, but about all Filipinos.

“It is a reflection of diversity brought about by regional division. No matter how we call it - Bulalo from Luzon, Pochero here in Cebu, Kansi in Iloilo, Pakdo in Leyte – we always end up celebrating the good taste. The Linamnam, the lami, the yummy, the manyaman- to us Pampanguenos,” added Tayag.

The Cebu stop of the authors was through the auspices of Anvil Publishing, National Bookstore and SM City Cebu, where they signed copies of their book for early buyers.

You can grab a copy of “Linamnam 2” in the food and travel sections of all National Bookstore and Powerbooks nationwide.
