Exploring the island beyond what is considered as picture perfect needs an adventurous spirit and a dash of fun. First off, let's start with:
How to get there?
There are a couple ways of getting to Boracay.
From Cebu to Boracay, one can either do the land trip, or ride a boat or ride a plane.
The land trip will require you to wake up early to be able to catch the bus going to Bacolod. From Bacolod you ride a boat going to Iloilo, from Iloilo you ride a bus going to Caticlan, from Caticlan you ride a pump boat going to Boracay. If you leave by 4am you'll be by Bacolod at around 10am, by Iloilo maybe around noon, by Caticlan by around 4 or 5pm, by Boracay by around 5-6pm.
The boat ride usually leaves cebu pier by around 7-8pm and you'll be at Iloilo by 6am. Go to the bus terminal and board the bus for Caticlan. You'll be by Caticlan by around 11am and by Boracay by around lunch time.
The plane ride is the easiest option for travelers. Book your flight for Boracay. Cebu Pacific Air offers direct trips to Boracay via Caticlan daily. A trip to Caticlan from Cebu takes an estimated time of one (1) hour. Return trips from Caticlan to Cebu are also daily. From Mactan cebu International airport you are flown straight to Godofredo Ramos Airport in Caticlan. There is a counter inside the airport where you will buy your tricycle stub and port fare. The tricycle will bring you straight to the pier. Board the pump boat and you are on your way to Boracay. Get ready for a 30 minute boat ride.
What to do upon arriving the port of Boracay?
Questions to answer: where are you headed? Does your place of stay provide transfers? If your place of stay does not provide transfers, board the tricycle or the multicab. The tricycle is good for 2 persons which will cost you around P50/person. For a multicab, the same rate as the tricycle but it can accommodate 8-10 people, this is good if you are traveling with a group.
How to get around Boracay?
Tricycle is their easiest means of transportation. Make sure to hail the running tricycle, it costs cheaper compared to the parked ones. Based on experience, a hailed tricycle will only charge P10/person compared to a parked tricycle where the driver charges P30/person.
