Grab Philippines Launches Green Programme to Inspire Sustainability in On-Demand Services
Leading super-app Grab Philippines has officially launched its Green Programme, solidifying its commitment to environmental sustainability. This innovative initiative introduces a toggle-on option for users of Grab's on-demand mobility and delivery services, inviting them to join in vital ecological conservation efforts alongside partners like Fostering Education & Environment for Development, Inc. (FEED), EcoMatcher Ltd, and the Keo Seima Wildlife Sanctuary Project.
Through the Green Programme, every Grab user can make a meaningful contribution to environmental conservation with each ride or delivery. Just by taking a GrabCar or GrabTaxi trip, users can donate PHP 2.00, while each GrabFood or GrabMart delivery allows for a PHP 1.00 contribution.
This program's heart is a mangrove planting project in Dulao Village, La Union, formed through collaboration with residents and the farming community. Supported by EcoMatcher and FEED—a Philippine-based NGO dedicated to sustainable education and tree planting—this project aims to restore, preserve, and protect the biodiversity of our beautiful country.
Users can readily embrace the Green Programme by navigating to "Account" and selecting "Support the Environment," with a simple toggle option available before confirming any food or grocery delivery.
Passengers utilizing Grab's mobility services will find the Green Programme toggle conveniently located in the three-dot overflow menu of their booking screen. This toggle enables them to opt-out whenever they choose.
"In line with our ongoing commitment to nation-building, Grab aspires to harness its technology and platform to foster a deep sense of sustainability and environmental stewardship within our communities across the Philippines," said Greg Camacho, Director of Strategy at Grab Philippines. "We are thankful for the incredible support from our kababayans for the launch of this program, and we will continuously innovate and pursue new pathways to make our services greener and reduce our carbon footprint, nurturing a sustainable future for every rider, driver, passenger, and consumer in the Grab super-app community."
Regionally, the Green Programme also supports the Keo Seima Wildlife Sanctuary project, which adheres to the internationally recognized Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and Climate, Community & Biodiversity (CCB) standards. This initiative is dedicated to protecting and restoring nearly 300,000 hectares of natural ecosystems while ensuring the survival of 75 threatened species.
The Green Programme is the latest addition to Grab's comprehensive sustainability initiatives. These efforts include empowering customers to opt out of receiving cutlery with their food deliveries to minimize plastic waste and a regional partnership with BYD to provide electric vehicles for Grab's driver-partners throughout Southeast Asia. Moreover, Grab has partnered with Starbucks for the FoodShare Program, leveraging its delivery network to share unsold food from Starbucks locations with local nonprofits like the Philippine Food Bank Foundation, addressing food insecurity in our communities.
With the launch of the Green Programme, Grab continues to lead the charge in inspiring sustainable urban mobility, food, and grocery delivery, empowering users to make eco-conscious choices for a brighter, greener future.
