Cebu City's South District softball enthusiasts have something to look forward to this summer as Congressman Eduardo "Edu" Rama Jr. launches the first ever "Cong. Edu Rama Softball Cup" in partnership with leading Philippine broadband company Converge ICT Solutions Inc.
This community-driven tournament promotes camaraderie, teamwork, and sportsmanship among the eight competing teams.
The tournament officially started with a motorcade from Cebu City Hall Grounds passing through South Road Properties, Barangay Mambaling, F. Llamas Street, both in Barangays Punta Princesa and Tisa, until the end of the route at Labangon Elementary School in Barangay Labangon. The tournament will occur on all Sundays in May at the Labangon Elementary School Grounds.
Congressman Rama thanked Converge for partnering with him to realize his dream of hosting a softball cup in Cebu City. The legislator also hopes that this first-ever softball cup will be the start of a bigger and better sports cup for the people of Cebu.
"It's a privilege for Converge to sponsor this pioneering sports tournament to promote camaraderie and sportsmanship in Cebu City. We look forward to more partnerships that espouse community building as we contribute to bringing people together through our fiber broadband service," said Converge Regional Manager for Visayas and Mindanao Michael Maquiran.
Eight teams, namely Wirednook, Taters, Rebels, Bandits, Vikings-c10, JBR Mega Voltz, Shenica, and KA2 Apparel Asturias, will compete for the championship. Each team comprises 17 members and three coaches in the mixed category. The winning team will receive medals, a trophy, and a P10,000-cash prize.
Converge and other leading sponsors will also award special awards and raffling-off items for the players throughout the tournament.
The Sugbo Softball Association Head, Logane Echavez, introduced all the competing teams during the opening program.
Congressman Rama hopes this tournament will foster community and sportsmanship among the participants and spectators. He also hopes this softball cup will encourage Cebuanos to engage in sports and other physical activities, promoting a healthy lifestyle.
