During 2006, these three (3) bands sailed to Manila and invaded their music scene. It made noise and built up a following, which made these bands more popular in their home ground. With that success, Sonic Boom came up with a concept where the three (3) bands can play together plus other local bands (and maybe a Manila band) and made that as a “Halad” and “Pasalamat” to Sto. Nino since it was nearing Sinulog at that point.
To their surprise, it gained a huge following on their first attempt and until now, it is still growing. For the record, this will be their 7th year.
Sinulog Blast-Off 2013:
This event celebrates with Nino by showcasing and uplifting local talents. This is their “halad”(offering) and “pasalamat” (Thanksgiving) to Nino. This is their procession. They celebrate through the music our local talent brings.
They hope to inspire Cebuanos that we have these musical talents just around the block, creating music that we can proudly call our own. So with this said, they will be hosting again SONIC BOOM: Sinulog Blast-Off and will be held in time for the most celebrated festivity in the country, Cebu’s SINULOG Festival.
Last 2012, they had over 2,500 attendees and they are the only Rock event held indoors. This coming 2013, they are aiming to hit the 3,500 mark. You can describe them as the biggest rock music event in Cebu during Sinulog.
This 2013 line-up includes SONIC BOOM Cebu’s URBANDUB, THE AMBASSADORS, POWERSPOONZ, BETHANY, SHUFFLED, DROP DECAY, PAIN IN THE NECK, DYMPHNA, and SIRENS. Manila’s GREYHOUNDZ, CURBSIDE, JEJAVIEW, and EARTHMOVER.
SINULOG BLAST-OFF is also partnering again with THREADFEST!. This will be their 3rd year in partnership. Threadfest! is a gathering of local clothing brands. They will be showcasing and selling their latest collection during the event. Nick Automatic, Scars, Product of Uranus, Killapinas – just to name a few.
SONIC BOOM SINULOG BLAST-OFF 2013 is definitely an event to be a part of. iSTORYA.NET supports this movement.
