The event will showcase 30 competing teams or approximately 300 participants with what started as video entries from 79 groups with 491 participants, all from the Visayas. With 1 representing the vocal category and 29 teams for the dance category.
The K-Pop World Festival, organized as a global competition, started in 2017 to introduce Korean pop culture to different parts of the world. The winning team of each participating country will fly to Korea, where they will compete in the final selection by either September or October later this year. The K-Pop World Festival will be covered by the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) and televised worldwide through the KBS World.

With the growing enthusiasm for K-Pop culture from the people in Cebu and the rest of the Visayas, the Korean Consulate in Cebu and the Cebu Korean Association are optimistic that the K-Pop World Festival Cebu Preliminary on July 2 will bring in an even bigger crowd than in the previous years. With this support and an ideal venue like the Ayala Center Cebu, a Team from the Visayas may finally be able to make it to the final selection at Changwon, Korea.
