Everyone's excited and anticipating the world-renowned race IRON 70.3 which is happening this weekend. Now on its 8th consecutive
year, the 2019 Regent AGUILA IRONMAN 70.3 powered by Philam Vitality kicks off today at Shangri-la Mactan.
The annual event has seen growth in terms of participants and spectators. Awarded in 2018 as the Best Spectator Race in the world
at the World Championship in Kona, the Regent Aguila IRONMAN 70.3 Cebu is yet again to wow the world.
"As we continue to grow year after year, we are thrilled to kick off one of the biggest IRONMAN 70.3 in Cebu yet" share Princess Galura, General Manager of Sunrise Events, Inc. a part of IRONMAN Group. "This year, we welcome close to 2,300 triathletes from 57 countries, to swim, bike and run around the beautiful island of Mactan, Cebu" she added.
The race starts at the pristine waters of Shangri-la Mactan beach, onto a 1.9-km swim ending at the Shangri-la Boat Ramp going to the transition area.
Participants then take the road passing through Mactan Newtown and proceed climb Marcelo Fernan Bridge. The 180-km bike ride takes participants on a scenic view of Cebu, Mandaue, and Talisay.
This year, the bike course is back at the long and imposing South Reclamation Property Road, where headwinds and crosswinds mimic that of Kona.
From transition, participants take a double loop 21km-run around generally flat terrain of mixed asphalt and concrete roads of Punta Engano, and back to the finish line a the Shangri-la Mactan Resort and Spa.
