Cebu celebrates grandest festival

The biggest festival in the country is happening this weekend already. Cebu celebrates Sinulog with a week full of religious and cultural activities. It is also known for its street parties and concerts. It is also known as the feast of Cebu’s patron, Señor Santo Niño or the Child Jesus.


Pre-Sinulog activities are ongoing for the entire week. There are nightly variety shows at Plaza Independencia and Fuente Osmeña. The Sinulog 2019 mobile app was also launched simultaneously with the Sinulog kick-off activities. The app was created to reach out to younger generations. It was designed with two key features. Users can use the app to check on the schedule of activities and to check on the maps during Sinulog weekend. New features include the ability to post photos of your Sinulog memories. When you post, you get rewards. Users can also use the app to vote for their favorite festival queen and favorite contingent.

Sinulog is defined by its religious procession on the 19^th of January. There is a street procession and a fluvial procession. It is also defined by the grand Sinulog parade on the 20^th of January. Over 26 floats are confirmed to take part. The photo contest is expected to have 200 contestants. During the grand Sinulog parade, there will be no reception from 8 AM until 5 PM. The votes for the favorite contingent will load in the app server when cellphone signals return on the evening of January 20. The awarding ceremony will be on January 21.


Tickets to the grand parade can be bought at Cebu City Sports Center, Ayala Center Cebu, and Robinson’s Galleria Cebu. Tickets can also be bought online on the official Sinulog website. Tickets range from Php1,000 to Php3,000. There are five ticket variations.
