Kanta Kasing-Kasing, the newest online love songwriting competition is now accepting entries for original Bisaya love song compositions.
Held under the auspices of Kasikas Records in collaboration with Viva South, Inc., Kanta Kasing-Kasing aims to shine the spotlight on Bisaya love songs. Featuring composers from all over the world, and put local Cebuano music in the Original Pinoy Music (OPM) scene.
“This is a step for us to propel Bisaya music into the mainstream and be recognized as part of the OPM. With Viva South, Inc. in the picture, we hope to move to that direction,” said songwriter and composer Jude Gitamondoc of Kasikas Records.
Kanta Kasing-Kasing also aims to become an avenue for budding songwriters, musicians, and artists. It is for them to create and share their masterpieces, collect new songs for recording artists managed by Viva South, Inc., and build a library of mainstream contemporary Bisaya love songs.
As an online competition, Kanta Kasing-Kasing will leverage on social media to increase awareness of the contest and allow participants to share their entries with a wide online audience.
“We want to reach out to other Filipinos through these songs, not just the Bisaya. We are aiming for a greater audience. Language can be a barrier but we’ll let the message of love conveyed through the songs to bridge the gap,” Gitamondoc said.
The entries will be judged based on people’s choice award and juries’ choice award. Winning entries will win Php 30,000 and Php 50,000 respectively.
Deadline of entries is on March 30, 2018. Five (5) finalist songs will be chosen. The general criteria for judging are musicality (30 percent); lyrics and arrangement of words and ideas (30 percent); and overall impact (40 percent).
