Give and receive more kisses this Valentine’s Day with fresh smelling breath.
The Gan Advanced Osseointegration Clinic (GAOC), one of Asia’s most advanced bringing world-class dental services and the country's biggest dental, shares their expertise and tips on how to give your sweetheart the kiss he or she deserves, especially on this special day:
1. BRUSH YOUR TEETH
Brushing your teeth at least two to three times a day removes food debris and plaque that causes bacteria to breed in your mouth.
2. USE DENTAL FLOSS
Flossing helps take out small food particles stuck in difficult-to-reach places between teeth. This small step goes a long way and makes tooth brushing more effective, removing more odor-causing bacteria in the mouth.
3. BRUSH YOUR TONGUE
Improve your daily oral hygiene routine by cleaning your tongue. Use your toothbrush or a dedicated tongue scraper to gently remove bacteria, food debris, toxins, and dead cells lingering on your tongue, allowing for fresher breath.
4. GARGLE WITH MOUTHWASH
Add this to your routine to combat germs and gum disease in hard-to-reach places—the minty fresh breath is just the bonus.
5. AVOID FOOD THAT CAUSES BAD BREATH
It’s hard to say no to delicious food, but if you really want to earn that post-date smooch, take it easy on garlic, onions, spices, coffee, and cheese. These are acidic and change the PH balance in the mouth—not to mention, the smell lingers. If you can’t avoid them, drink lots of water and pop a mint.
6. QUIT SMOKING
Smoking harms teeth and destroys them in the long run. Research shows that smoking also decreases salivary flow, which leads to chronic halitosis, and xerostomia or dry mouth.
7. DRINK LOTS OF WATER
Keep your mouth well-hydrated by drinking the highly-recommended eight glasses of water a day. A dry mouth is more susceptible to bad breath since saliva is necessary to neutralize the acids produced by plaque.
8. HAVE A REGULAR CHECK UP WITH YOUR DENTIST
Always keep up with your dental appointments, once or twice a year, to keep track of any irregularities in the condition of your teeth, gums, tongue and the surrounding soft tissue.
