Cebu Dancing Inmates Inspired Creation of Web Musical

Music in our generation today has been a very integral part in the expression of emotions, stories and opinions. Such can be depicted in the onslaught of musical productions in television shows like Glee, Kitchen Musical, etc. Of course, audiences splurge in stories behind voice talent searches like American Idol, The Voice, etc. In fact, our appreciation for music has also heightened interests in stage musicals, New York being the center with Broadway in its turf. Emerging Youtube sensations are now recognized, people who love singing basically make it big like Charice Pempengco, Arnel Pineda, etc.

However, have you ever heard of a Web Musical?

A web musical is an interactive musical series that will be seen not in any giant TV network but right within your hands and at the mercy of your internet connection. With web musicals, you do not have to go to New York for Broadway entertainment. You just got to have great web finds.

And great web find indeed when this web musical called Prison Dancer caught our attention. This is a web musical stage play inspired by our very own CCPDRC dancing prison inmates which went viral in Youtube last 2009.

In their Facebook page, it says that Prison Dancer is ÂœGlee meets Miss Saigon wrapped in a choose-your-own adventure kind of concept filled with catchy pop tunes, star-crossed lovers, and engaging interactive elements. This brings together the best of Broadway and Youtube entertainment and takes transmedia storytelling to the next level.

This features a cast of Youtube stars, including one of our favorites, Mikey Bustos, who, aside from giving us humorous Filipino ways, is also a very talented musician.

The series started with a very great introductory episode last March 6, 2012, with an episode per week following the said first episode. There will be 11 episodes more which can be seen at their Youtube link (check link below).

Based on their mission, this is created as a platform for Filipino talent and culture to elevate the platform of entertainment and digital storytelling, to make people everywhere sing and dance!

Of course, this is a must-see recommendation from us here because aside from the fact that this is based from our CCPDRC Dancing Inmates, the plot of their story gives each viewer a message of hope and determination to change no matter what happened in the past.

To all those behind Prison Dancer and the emergence of web musicals: Kudos on the ingenuity and congratulations in advance to the inevitable success of this endeavor.
