The recent 10th anniversary Grand EB at the Outpost is reflective of their success and the success of iSTORYA.NET.
But who is BeoR really and how is he as a person behind iSTORYA.NET?
Our Behind the Nick column features our one and only BeoR--- not the Forever Newbie or the seemingly- omniscient Site Admin that we know him to be, but BeoR as Gerald Yuvallos, a husband, a father and a friend as described by his wife Janice, his daughter Janna and a friend who wants to remain anonymous.
What makes BeoR smile?
Janna (eldest daughter): A good meal set on the table, seeing his children set academically, the fruits of his hard work when he sees that people think about him now and then, getting a hug and a kiss when we get home.
Janice (wife): When I prepare his favorite food or when he wants something and gets it (bags, gadgets, site modifications).
Anonymous Friend: When I say I miss him. Hahaha.. Nah, he smiles at the smallest of things. He loves intellectual talks so when he gets the joke right away, he guffaws like a big bear. You would know when he does not like the joke because he would just give a respectful laugh (nga klarong fake) and goes on with another topic.
What are the indications that he is in a bad mood?
Janna: He has that look on his face, and he doesn't talk much. If you ask too much unnecessary questions, he will be irritated and he will tend to answer you in that particular serious tone.
Janice: He is grumpy. He has that angry and serious look and tends to answer you with a wee bit of sarcasm.
Anonymous Friend: He is silent. So silent that it's creepy at times, especially when you know how bubbly he is in a good mood. In a bad mood, he usually seems like in a trance, physically there but not listening to others' conversations.
What makes him switch from bad mood to good mood?
Janna: Basically on my part, low grades and when we do not know how to prioritize our studies and choose to do other things that can cause distraction. Having less sleep also puts him in a bad mood. A simple sincere apology would always do the trick though. But he always knows when the apology is sincere or not.
Janice: It depends on the situation. Sometimes, silence works, sometimes a tickle or a talk or a peace offering would do.
Anonymous Friend: I don't know, I just joke around and talk about computer and stuff.
On more than just talk: what are the things that you can easily talk to him?
Janna: Anything. From how school went, to the guy I like, to what happens with me, to how Rihanna is not exactly pretty and how music these days make no sense.
Janice: We used to talk about anything under the sun but lately, it's been more about his plans for the site, the server and the modifications he has to do.
Anonymous Friend: Memories of how things were, our "vices". I usually talk to him about relationship stuff, not just about love. So we talk about friends, family, etc. He always has this way of letting you see another perspective so it's easy talking to him about these things.
Greatest advice he gave you:
Janna: To be myself.
Janice: To speak up, which backfired on him eventually (according to him)
Anonymous Friend: Buy 1 TB hard disk. Haha.. nah, I guess it would be: Follow your heart. Charrr!!!!
Describe him, is there a difference between the person that he is and as a site admin?
Janna: As a father, he is caring and loving and thoughtful and at time, he can be protective. He isn't always home and he's usually busy but he is doing everything he does for our future and our family. Once he starts his work, he doesn't stop until he finishes. I guess the difference between him being a dad and being a site admin is that when he's being a site admin, he looks at all the technicalities, and well, everything's just technical, but when it comes to being my dad, he looks at things practically.
Janice: As a father, he has both a fun and serious side. He likes it when we go out on trips and bond as a family. He is loving, caring and protective. He does his best to provide for the family. On the more serious side of him, he does this closed door talks with the kids when needed (if they have low grades in school, to correct habits etc. usually about parent-kid talks).
As a site admin, he seems strict when you read his posts online but when you see him, he is an entirely different person who is fun-loving and easy to be with. He is a perfectionist technically, he wants everything done the way he plans it out and the way he sees it. When he starts working, he goes at it without noticing the time that has passed thus giving him sleepless night. He doesn't mind the time when he is on his zombie work mode. So in summary, him as a husband/father and a site admin has both serious and fun sides.
Anonymous Friend: He is a very serious site admin. I guess, he needs to be serious, otherwise, iSTORYA would not last this long. But as a friend, it is sooo different! We laugh at almost anything, joke at the most minute of things. He is easy to talk to and comfortable to be with. I love him. Ayyy!
So, before our BeoR gives us a fit, I will just end my questions here (he does not want to be highlighted). All we are trying to say is thank you BeoR, thank you Gerald for the person that you are. For the many sacrifices and for giving no less than the best of yourself to iSTORYA.NET on top of being a father, a husband and a good friend. iSTORYA.NET will never be what it is now without you. Congratulations and may you continue to inspire more and more iSTORYAns.
