Offbeat Productions and 2TinCans Philippines are proud to present “Gugmang Giatay”, the first-ever Bisrock jukebox musical which features popular Bisaya songs from famous Cebuano artists like Cattski Espina, The Ambassadors, Missing Filemon, Rommel Tuico, Vispop and more. The much-awaited jukebox musical revolves around Inday, a house help whose heart is torn between Ben and Undo. The lead role will be played by Vispop 2015 Grand Champion Lourdes Maglinte.
The story, written by renowned musical director Jude Gitamondoc and Rowell Ucat, who is known on social media as Medyo Maldito, is not your typical everyday love story, but it promotes love as a universal message.
“Maski dili ka maka-relate jud sa story pero ma-igo jud ka,” according to producer Sarah Mae Enclona-Henderson. When Jude gave her the material, Sarah immediately knew this play is worth working on. “I felt it is something na dili angay ipadaplin, dili angay ibutang lang sa kilid. This is a musical we are really proud of,“ she added.
Creative director Edison “Jingle” Saynes also sees the musical as a key for Cebuano theater to make a comeback. “We want to disprove that theater in Cebu is not dead. It is definitely not dead. Plus, we want to use Cebuano as a medium for future plays,” he said.
“Gugmang Giatay” will be staged on October 23 at 8pm and October 24 at 2pm and 8pm at the CAP Auditorium.
