THE National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) approved on Thursday the request of the Police Regional Office (PRO) in the Central Visayas to shut down the cell sites of mobile phone companies during the Fiesta Seņor activities on Saturday and Sunday to prevent terrorist bomb attacks in Cebu City. Councilor Dave Tumulak confirmed the development after he met with NTC officials along with PRO-Central Visayas Director Noli Taliņo on Thursday afternoon (January 12). Tumulak said NTC Commissioner Gamaliel Cordoba signed the approval of the request, which will take effect for two days. Tumulak said there will be no mobile phone signal during the solemn procession on Saturday (January 14) and Sinulog grand parade on Sunday (January 15). As to the exact time when the signals will be jammed and the particular areas that will be affected, Tumulak refused to disclose the details for security reasons. (RVC/SunStar Cebu)
