CEBU, Philippines - A woman from Lapu-Lapu City is eyeing at filing charges against a hospital in Cebu City over the death of her newborn.

Edalene Añosa, 35, alleged that the hospital made her undergo a normal delivery despite her request for a caesarian operation.

The baby allegedly died with bruises on its body. Añosa said she purposely requested a caesarian delivery because her baby was in a breeched position based on an ultra sound test at the Lapu-Lapu City Hospital.

However, because the hospital did not have the right equipment, Añosa decided to go to the hospital in Cebu City last June 4. There, a doctor reportedly advised her to undergo tubal ligation to stop her from getting pregnant again but her husband did not agree.

“Ako siya giingnan nga magpa-caesarian ko, doc, pero dili ko magpa-ligate kay dili mosugot ako bana… apan didto nagyawyaw na hinoon siya ug kay gusto ko nga ligate-on,” Añosa said.

When she was at the waiting room prior to the delivery, the doctor allegedly made her sign three documents, which she thought was for a caesarian operation.

“Gipapirma ko pero wala kaayo ko masayod unsa to kay wala man ko kopya pero pagtuo nako, mao to ang para sa caesarian nako,” she said.
She claimed a staff member at the hospital made her wait for several hours until 4 a.m. the following day on June 5 purportedly for a caesarian operation but when she experienced extreme pain, she was told to push the baby out as she was ready to deliver.

Añosa said there was a point when those tending to her had to stop to call a doctor because they could not pull the baby out completely.

“Nihunong pa sila og pipila ka minutos kay nipatawag pa sila og doctor… unsa man diay sila, dili doctor? Wa ko masayod giunsa nila pagpaguwa akong anak kay ako gibuhat mao ra gayud ang pagsige og utong aron maluwas akong anak,” she said.

She said she was relieved when she pushed her baby out successfully eventually only to be told that the child had to be brought to the intensive care unit.

Several hours later, by midday, she was informed that her baby had passed away.

The FREEMAN is withholding the name of the hospital pending its statement.
