Ikemefula Ibeabuchi was born on February 2, 1973 in Isuochi, Nigeria, and is a former heavyweight boxing contender. Also known as "The President", Ike became a professional boxer in 1994 and quickly made a name for himself with his devastating power and will. Touted by many as the next Mike Tyson, Ike knocked 15 of his first 20 opponents out. His most memorable fight may be an outstanding brawl with David Tua in June 1997, where both fighters combined for 1730 punches thrown; an HBO record for a heavyweight fight. Ike won the fight by unanimous decision.

His career culminated with a crushing knockout of Chris Byrd, and as quickly as he rose, he fell from the boxing scene. Ike's fight with Bryd in 1999 was to be his last as a professional. Ibeabuchi's career was cut short in 2001 when he was convicted of raping an exotic dancer and was sentenced 5 to 30 years in prison at the Lovelock Correctional Center in Nevada. Ibeabuchi had barricaded himself and the woman in a hotel room, and the police needed to use tear gas to subdue him [1]. He was denied parole in August 2004 and will not be eligible for another hearing until August 2007.
