API(Application programming interface) - IMHO, usa ni siya na set of rules, methods or protocol na gigamit para makaconnect(send/update/recieve data) sa usa ka software.

For example:
Twitter API
- Gihmo ni siya na API para makaconnect(send/update/recieve data) ang uban software sa Twitter.

Situation:
Pananglitan, naa kay website, nya naa pud kay twitter.. nya ganahan ka na makita ang imong twitter feeds sa imong website.. thats the time na mugamit ka sa Twitter API para makakuha kag data sa ilaha and madisplay nmo sa imong website.

FRAMEWORK - IMHO, ang framework kay usa ka set of rules, methods and protocol na gibuhat para mas mapadali, mahapsay and mapanindot, masecure ang paghmo nimo sa usa ka software.

Codeigniter Framework. Framework ni siya PHP programming Language.

Sample Situation:
Ganahan ka maghmo ug website using PHP pro ganahan ka na hapsay imong code and mas secure ang imong site. Pwede nimo gamiton ang Codeigniter framework para mas mapadali and mahapsay ang pagbuhat nimo sa usa ka software using PHP programming language,

you use both for web development. you need a platform, an API, a framework and etc., in short, you need a technology(.NET technology, Java technology) to build a computing envionment.

it's night and day TS.. hehehe.. bitaw, API is what your app will show to the world or let the world access your app.. the framework is a base building block for your app.. lahi ra jud kaayu.. the framework itself has API which obviously let you use the framework itself..

Not everything has something like API honestly and you do not have any code to get it done better wisely and totally and completely. I am totally out why people constantly do not see any difference between API and something like framework.
