PHILIPPINE Councilors’ League-Cebu Chapter President Carmen Remedios Durano-Meca was reelected unopposed during the PCL election yesterday.
The PCL election was held at the Capitol Social Hall and participated in by the councilors of the different municipalities and cities in the province.
PCL national chairman Allan Zulueta, national president Alma Moreno and national secretary general Maybelyn Dela Cruz-Fernandez were present to witness the event.
Meca and her slate had no opponent during the election.
One vote was cast and was presented by PCL interim officer and Pilar Councilor Mercury Fernandez Jr.
Committee
The election committee was headed by Department of Interior and Local Government Provincial Director Jerome Gonzales with Provincial Secretary Anecita Pasaylo and Councilor Fernandez as members.
Meca, who also celebrated her 35th birthday yesterday, said it was the second time in history that the candidates for the PCL election had no opponents.
Officers
The other newly-elected officials are vice president Eduardo “Digul” Gullas III (Talisay City), secretary-general Jeffrey Anthony Yapha (Pinamungahan), treasurer Gamaliel Lumapas (Sogod), auditor Irving Gamallo (Samboan), public relations officer
Geronimo Almirante (Bogo City) and business manager Julius Alegado (Consolacion).
The board of directors by ranking include Othello Chiong (Naga City), Emmanuel Jo (Balamban), Neal Vergara (Borbon), Erwin Gica (Dumanjug), Rajiv Enad (Minglanilla), Samuel Moralde (Daanbantayan), Nenita Layese (Mandaue City) and Napoleon Enrique Teves (Santander).
Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III administered the oath of the officials.
In his speech, Davide assured that the PCL-Cebu will receive P1 million from the governor’s office as financial assistance.
He reminded the officials to serve their constituents responsibly.
Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale said the Province will always be there to support the PCL.
Meca, in an interview, hoped that for the next three years she can give good service to the members of the league.
“Tungod sa ilang pagsalig nato likayan gyud nato nga madismaya sila sa atong liderato so ato gyung ipadayon ang mga proyekto ug programa nga atong nasugdan sa tulo ka tuig (Because of the trust that they have given to us, we will try to avoid that our members will be disappointed in our leadership and we will continue the projects and programs we have implemented for the past three years),” Meca said.
She said the PCL has given educational materials and kits to the teachers and children of the 1,352 day care centers in the province as one of their major projects.
The group also helped in the repair and rehabilitation of the day care centers.
