Default How to become a freelance Web Developer?

Naka work ko og Web Development company for 5 months and after that call center agent for almost 2 months. I stopped working in CC becuase dili jud nako kaya ang night shift. Then, nadawat ko as a web developer in a small IT company nga ang work mao jud ako gusto but wala ko nipadayon since night shift man pud lage. Ang main goal gyud nako as of now is to become a freelance web developer pero wala pa jud koy tarong nga portfolio nga matawag jud nga ako kay dili man jud ko proficient og front end development, more on back end man ako tirada...How to get prospect client bisag wala pa kay portfolio sa mga freelance nga websites like Odesk and Elance? Tabangggggggggggggg...........

Ayaw anang Odesk bro kay daghan kaayog mga Indian nga mo dive ug presyo. $5/hr ra imo makuha, ug kailangan pa jud nimo ug nindot nga reviews from past clients. Naay uban taga California/Australlia/NZ mag post2x sa mga local PHP forums pwede ra sad nimo ma contact directly through Skype.

if you do really need to be a 'freelance' then the "portfolio" is a must to have!
create several websites that demonstrates its 'thing'
    examples:
site 1: via http only but with javascript
    site 2: php driven
    site 3: combination of 1 and 2
    site 4: magento integrated
    site X...

DAPAT gyud NA-A kay ika SHOWCASE if gusto ka mag freelance

and..., apply sa company nila 'simoncpu' kay web man sab ka ^_^
ganahan unta ko apply pero almost zero man gud ko sa web.

just don't give up and discouraged, ayaw sayangi an potential nmo.

ako dugay2x na pud ko nag freelance 6 years ko sa industry as software engineer pero lahi ra jud ikaw ang boss sa imu kaugalingon which kinahanglan ug attitude and discipline, and extend more effort with passion on your work.

3 years+ on the industry, started from no portfolio pud. Pero on my opinion you need to be patient on the low rates to start with if you aim for freelance gig. 5 months on web development is a long way to go and still lots to learn before you can back yourself up as a freelancer.

Also, being on backend stuffs doesn't mean nga di ka pwede mo learn on the basics for the front-end stuff. How will you do freelancing if wala knowledge bsag gamay sa frontend? You will look for another person to do the design?

a old friend mine said to me once... that there is no certainty in freelance.. always have day job other than freelance work... unless you are confident that you in-demand... until then find a day job...

by the way a portfolio doesnt have to be a previous paid project, it could be a pet project or just anything you can think that could showcase you talent...

TIP: if you dont have a portfolio you could start by doing a pet project on your spare time, a study, a hack.. you could contribute on some open source projects... try starting in github.... ive been putting a lot of open source project lately... some are new framework that would help other developer learn the basic... some are just contribution to existing project like codeigniter... creating bug fix is considered also as portfolio..

share ko sa akong experience nimo TS,

sa oDesk jud ko nag start originally. Totally a newbie pa man jud ko, student pa jud so nagsugod ko ug very low rate, $2 per hour pero after a month ni biya ra ko dayon sa client. 5-star rating man pud ko ato, sukad ato kay daghan na kog nakuha nga clients nga mo pay much much more. taud2x pud ko nag freelance sa oDesk, basta importante kay build your portfolio, aim for big clients nya don't give up easy lang. . anything can be achieved through hard work unless dili jud na para nimu hehehe. . ang lisud ra jud if sa oDesk ka kay ang pag start kay daghan kompetensya. . but if ma prove nimo nga much better ka than other developers, nindot kag kaugmaon. good luck, hope this helps
