Default INQUIRY about BUSINESS RELATING to AGRICULTURE

Hello everyone , I was thinking about this venture for over a year already.

Although I can easily access the Department of Agriculture for assistance but I want to ask first anyone here who has experience and knowledge about

    farming on :

    - Fruit bearing trees
    - Vegetables

    and rearing animals :

    - Hogs
    - Goats
    - Cattles

Considering I want to focus first on FRUIT BEARING TREES like MANGOES , STAR APPLES , GUYABANOS , SANTOL , LOMBOY etc. and raise livestock like goats and cattles , these are my first couple questions and hope someone experienced and knowledgeable enough can provide me an insight . Thanks in advance.

    1. What kind of terrain and composition of land should I acquire ?
    2. At a minimum , how much land or the feasible modest land area should I acquire for me to get started ?
    3. What kind of permits do I need for me to operate an agricultural farm ?
    4. What other by products are available at the disposal of the assets I will have in the future ?
    5. Are the good kinds of cow's available locally intended to produce premium cow meat ?

    Thank you !

Bro if fruit bearing imu giconsider, make sure to check the market. Kay basin makahinayak ka ug tanom wala d i buyer. Sa Northern Mindanao nuon to amo farm pero we make sure first nga naa dyud buyer before magtanom. Like for example, naka-try mi ug mais.

Star apple, guyabanos, santol and lomboy murag dili kaayo na patok bro. Mas ok pa ang kalabasa bro. If farming dyud bro mas advisable ang slightly sloping ang terrain para dili mopundo ang tubig kay luoy imu tanom if malumos. Permits? Same as any other business pero mostly dili na man na kuhaan ug permits not unless mag-hog raising ka. Pero mas gwapo dyud karon bro if tanom ka ug lakatan ky grabe ang shortage sa lakatan tungod sa low-supply ang Davao.

Ganahan sad baya ko anang pagpamuhi og kanding og baka kaso wala pa ko capital as of this moment. Naa ko nabasahan sa Alaminos website, nga naa shortage sa supply sa meat sa kanding or karnero diri sa atoa.

Guys ... sorry wala nako na follow up ni diri ang thread.

    @ TWEATER ...

Thanks sa information ! Sa case sa imong scenario , tuod sakto gyud need naay market before starting. Ang fruit bearing trees nako na plano is something na lingaw lingaw lang and not the milking cow ( no pun intended ) . AKong goal gyud is provide high quality meat na beef ( kobe and wagyu ) and the chevon meat of the goat's and whatever by products I can get out of the livestock like goats milk , cows milk , cheese , etc.

Regarding sa fruit bearing trees , if walay mamalit , I am sure someone will consume it hehehehe and if naay ma supplyan na retailer the better .

Although nice ang suggestion nimo na kalabasa but for now mas focus ko sa fruit bearing trees lang una just so the parcel of land will be occupied.

Again , thanks for the feedback and advise !

Also , I am only looking for trainings available in Cebu , anything outside Cebu di ko pwede hehehehe .

I understand that this thread is relatively old,but still I want to address this because it is as relevant in present days as six years ago. I would like to tell you about mango because I have been growing since 1999.

    Mangifera indica

Mango trees have been cultivated in the subtropical areas in India for over 4,000 years. this tree grows as an evergreen reaching up to 90 feet tall with a canopy spreading 80 feet wide covered in leathery green leaves. The sweet fruit weighs from one-fourth pound to three pounds with skin that turns yellow, orange, purple and red colors. Mango trees adapt to a wide range of growing conditions and soils.

    SOIL

    Soil Depth
Mango trees produce long taproots, which search for water and anchors this massive tree in the ground. The best soil is at least 19 1/2 feet deep, but with good watering practices, mangos grow well in 3-foot-deep soil. Check the area for impermeable layers under the topsoil, which will stop the roots from growing downward. It is important to transplant the mango tree while young, since the roots quickly grow deep.

    Soil Drainage
The soil must drain well for the mango tree to survive. This tree does not tolerate standing water or waterlogged soil. Excessively wet soil causes root rot and tree decline. If drainage is a problem, plant on a slope to improve drainage. If a slope is not available, plant the mango tree on a mound made up of native soil 2 to 3 feet tall and 4 to 6 feet wide.

    Soil pH
The best soil for mango growth ranges between 4.5 and 7.0 pH, which is neutral to acidic soil. The mango tree does tolerate slightly alkaline soil. Use a soil testing kit to determine the pH of the soil. To improve the acidity of the soil, mix in organic materials like peat moss a year before planting.

    Soil Fertility
Mango trees like moderately fertile soil but have a low tolerance for salty soil. Do not use chemical fertilizers, which contain a high amount of salt, to improve poor soil. Do not plant these fruit trees in an area where lawns are fertilized. The best way to improve the fertility for mango trees is to mix equal parts of native soil, organic mulch and sand.

    Planting
Planting spreads from July to December. Epicotyl grafts are used for it.

    Field preparation
    Dig pits of 1 m x 1 m x 1 m. Fill in with topsoil mixed with 10 kg of FYM and 100 g per pit.

    Spacing
Adopt any one of the following spacing depending on requirements.

    1. Under conventional system of planting: 7-10 m either way
    2. High Density Planting : 5m x 5 m (400 plants /ha)
    3. Double hedge row system : Adopt a spacing of 5m x 5m within double rows and 10m between sucessive double rows (266 plants/ha)

    Planting
Grafts are planted in the center of pit with ball of earth intact followed by watering and staking. The graft union must be 15 cm above the ground level.

    More Information
Regular watering is recommended till establishment. Under conventional irrigation systems, weekly irrigation is essential. However, under micro-irrigation the requirement is restricted to one-third of the water required for conventional method. For more information on mango and other crops visit agriculture updates. It contains information like Intercropping, Canopy management, weather and agri buzz.

    Agricultural Licence
Licensing and Registration System of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) helps users to register for licence, check the status of application, eligibility details, fees, etc. online.
