    Default MERGED: Wage Hike

Senate panel OKs P125-wage increase for private workers

The Senate labor committee endorsed Monday the approval of a proposed P125 across-the-board legislated wage increase for workers in the private sector, dzBB radio reported.

Senator Jose "Jinggoy" Estrada, committee chairman, said there is no need for bicameral conference committee debates because the only issue left to be threshed out is the date of effectivity of the salary hike.

Estrada wants the increase to take effect beginning January 1 this year but the House of Representatives labor committee wants the measure to have a retroactive effect beginning October 2006.

Should President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo sign the measure into law, then the present 13th Congress will succeed in what its predecessors have failed to accomplish in nearly a decade...

Junmar is absolutely right and I must agree. I know some of my businessmen friends are exploring China where they can transfer their operations once the salary adjustment law comes into effect. Barato kuno kaayo ang labor ngadto and the work force is well disciplined. According to my source who is frequenting China for outsourcing new products and materials, asa man kuno ka mangita sa tibook kalibutan nga usa ka assembly plant nga dunay 8 mil katawo magdungan ug trabaho nga way estoryahanay! You talk while you are working and you're fired on the spot. It really astounds me nga ingon ana diay ang ilang work discipline. And the skill of their workforce have astronomically improved. Kulang lang kuno sa English but once they have acquired the mastery of it, manguros na lang gyud kuno ta, there's absolutely no way we can compete them. Not even the whole of ASEAN combined.

Gawas pa ana, walay strike. You strike and you're fired on the spot or worse you may end up in jail. You fired a thousand men today and you will find two thousand fresh recruits on the same day ready at hand. Ingon ana kadali sila nga makapangita ug tawo because of abundance of manpower which they have the luxury and they can readily exploit to the maximum.

I forgot to mention that ilang workers ngadto only want bottomless supply of chinese tea while doing their work but no talking to your neighbors.
