Talking Bongbong: Marcos would have turned PHL into ‘another Singapore’

Just before the 24th anniversary of the 1986 EDSA People Power uprising, the son and namesake of the late strongman ousted by that revolt on Tuesday said that the country would now be as successful as Singapore had former President Ferdinand Marcos not been removed from power.

"Napakarami ang kanyang nagawa, napakarami ang kanyang tinulong, at napakalaki ng progreso ng ating bansa noong panahon na iyon... [kung hindi siya napatalsik] siguro Singapore na tayo ngayon," Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. told reporters on Tuesday.

(He has done so much, he has helped a lot, and our nation greatly progressed during those times. If he wasn't ousted, maybe we would be like Singapore now.)

i would strongly agree to this because while i was working abroad, we had a japanese guest onboard which shared a story about his father... his father and his friends during the time of marcos went to our country to work (OJW?overseas japanese worker? ) . he even mentioned, he could not believe the Philippines is going through a lot of problems nowadays.

i'm not a fan of marcos, in fact i can't remember how it was like. but i was really shocked by his claims. well, not only his but his friends as well. oh and i almost forgot, their korean friend quoted the claim as well. Whew!

    Ph could have been nicer!

"During the regime of Ferdinand Marcos, the economy initially grew close to the earlier trend but eventually slowed considerably and even turned negative destabilized by allegations of corruption and political uncertainty and unrest. By the time of the People Power revolution, the economy had declined, falling severely below the growth of other nations in Southeast Asia. A severe recession in 1984-85 saw the economy shrink by more than 10%. Despite initial optimism, continued perceptions of political instability dogged the succeeding incompetent Corazon Aquino administration and daily blackouts in its later years further damped economic activity. Fidel V. Ramos restored electricity and managed to briefly uplift the economy during his term as president, posting modest but positive GDP growth rates"
