Good Day!
I decided to create a separate thread for this. Wala pa man ko nakita thread about this mod so I'm posting my own DIY V8 Mod
Simple Mod ra ni... changing the stock Red LEDs to super bright blue LEDs
So let's start.
I acquired a used V8 from killercity. I traded my sunbeamtech acrylic uv case for this item.
reference pix with stock red led:
tools needed:
box cutter
wire cutter / nail cutter would be ok
soldering lead
soldering iron
glue gun
super bright LEDs
330 ohm resistor (optional if you are going to create a separate wiring)
shrink wraps (optional if you are going to create a separate wiring)
dili ni mahal ha... very very cheap mod lang ni... di ni mulapas Php50 ang gasto assuming you already have the tools like soldering iron and glue gun... and dili sayop imo paghimo sa mod... hehehe
swapped LEDs on my old AVR just to check how bright it is...
disassemble process:
you need an allen wrench to remove the 4 allen screws at the top
remove the 2 screws at the bottom (located on the bracket) using a screwdriver
fan should slide out
fan is now removed
please be very careful in removing the cover plate, you might break the plastic tabs holding the fan
watch this video if you want to get an idea how to remove this:
YouTube - Cooler Master V8 MOD Part 1 (Disassemble)
fan and cover plate now removed
examining the stock LEDs (very small)
fitting in the replacement LED
soldering the replacement LEDs
i would assume you already know how to determine positive and ground wires... so i will not discuss it further...
be very careful in mounting and soldering the LEDs... i did not use any shrink wrap for this mod but just make sure you have a clearance so that the two wires will not touch each other.
testing the soldered LEDs
checking out the effect if there is a cover plate... not bad...
cutting the excess feet of the LEDs
applying melted plastic glue
reassembled the cover plate
not bad work at all... everything is hidden from view
v8 mod completed
