Default Asteriod Hit Earth in Nov. 19, 2008 EST

I still can't believe that an asteriod hit the earth last Nov. 19, 2008 Eastern Standard Time. I saw the live news on Cinemax last Nov. 20, 2008 @4PM Manila time, and it stunned me for a while. I was shocked when i saw how on earth NASA wasn't able to predict the coming of such huge space stone to blast in earth that caused damage to not only one blasting site but THREE; Wyoming, France & China. The huge space rock split into 3 asteriods after it passed the Polar Cap.

Until now am still shocked with this news. I tried searching in Google but am very unlucky. It seemed to me that there is a news block on this incident for i really can't find any match to any search key i use. Am calling to those istoryans to share information regarding this matter if they happen to see the news from Cinemax on that same day.

Um, you're making it sound like it's the end of the world. Asteroids ranging from the size of sand grains to the size of a jeepney regularly enter the earth's atmosphere (DAILY basis na day, mas normal pa na kaysa irregular menstruation) and usually just break up (meteors), some do reach the ground but the damage is insignificant. Now, basing on your reaction, you must have reached some kind of doomsday website (napud) or some Cinemax hyped-up story (a reporter trying to get noticed? Anyone remember the meteorite scene in "Bruce Almighty"?) and have utterly fallen victim to too much hype due to bad astronomy.

It's pretty easy to see why larger chunks are presently falling on the earth, it's Leonids season. Believe me, crossing a busy street in Cebu is more dangerous than asteroids falling on your head.

NASA is well aware of NEO's (Near Earth Objects) position on a minute-by-minute basis, and if you seriously want to get scared, try searching for "Apophis" in Google.com. I personally wouldn't worry about it but some might.

And maybe this is what you saw? http://www.ireport.com/docs/DOC-151309 looked frightening but basically it was just a small fragment impacting on an unpopulated area. Malas nalang kung sa populated area jud mahulog.

And never in the history of humanity, has anyone been directly hit by a meteorite, except for an unlucky dog in Egypt, and several cows around the world.

well said rodsky...not unless the asteroid seems like deep impact...that would be a real score...

I edited my post Uz, check my entry on "Apophis"...it's a reason for others to be scared, but I guess I'll be too old to be worrying about my life, by that time hehehe.

NASA knew it was coming. Asteroids don't have to kill everyone in the world.

di ba kaha to movie? i saw a movie back in cinemax when i was still in elementary (early 1990's) that they shot as a news report. the whole movie was like watching the news, and it was about a doomsday comet hitting earth too. we really thought it was real at first, until we changed the channel to cnn and to bbc
