Well, i dont really know about Feng shui but chinese believe in it, the yin and yang. For me though, there's no sense having to re-arrange your home and the furnitures in it to be able to receive positive vibrations. But i do believe in green plants inside your home, a living thing. Not dried flowers. Green plants absord odors especially cooking. Mao ra na. Feng shui is a market boom though and it sells!
Feng Shui is not for chinese people only. It is well practiced in Japan and most of our older generation though we considered this tuo2 and is not popular now with the younger generation. It is a practical way of living by balancing the forces of nature and common sense. Let's say, it is said in feng shui that the ref should not be set beside the stove, since the ref represents water and the stove is fire. The practical sense is that the ref needs its surrounding to be cool(feel the hot surface on the sides of newer models) for its condenser, so placing it beside your stove makes no sense for it would propagate inefficiency.
I practice feng shui and regard it as not a religion or belief(it is not BTW either) unlike horoscope, for the benefit of getting more sense in how we handle the way we live and our surroundings. Take note that we need some kind of standard to maintain how we work. How much more, how we live!
Buy a house and lot or just try buying your own land and see how little you get advice on what it should be or should not be. Why not try feng shui? Look how many Chinese and Japanese people are wealthy due to their delicate practice of balance. Yin and Yang. Water, Earth, Fire, and Wood. All of these are found in nature. Energy are all around us both positive and negative. Have you not heard that violent mentally ill patients tends to relax when they are placed inside green colored painted rooms? There is a science behind what should be around us. Like if you have insomnia or can be easily bothered during sleep, it is not advised to have a TV or PC monitor in-front of your bed. See how practical the feng shui advice is!
I am not advertising this to anyone, but we shouldn't judge anything until we get the facts.
Perhaps, some of Feng Shui principles has it's practical and scientific explanations... but like all superstitious belief... most of it are not true...
European nations and the US normally don't practice Feng Shui but they are more wealthier and powerful than the Chinese...
i once feng shui'd my room. i had a book as guide. it seemed fun.
it doesn't mean to say that you have to buy all those chinese stuff (like the bagua) because bottom line is that you go with what suits you best and are comfortable with; but then find a way to harmonize everything with feng shui as guide.
i'm no expert, though. i just found it was very helpful when cleaning my room when i didn't know where to put what.![]()

I'm half chinese pinay. I like the principle behind Feng Shui and in fact i do some of that stuff like keep an aquarium, keep a running water fountain, keep living things like plants inside the home, mirrors outside the door or something but i will not go to great lengths to do all that and rearrange my life and home for it. It just depends on a person's belief system and something that they have incorporated into their life and home. Others use it as a guide in their lives to draw in positive vibrations, good things. Nothing wrong there.
what ive observed, feng shui beliefs is just
normal things, general things which the chinese making it complicated, they have deeper meanings to it.
case in point, chinese dont want the floor level of their comfort rooms level to the flooring.of cors we cant do that for the drainage,
as much as possible they want their houses to be facing east, architecturally, of cors it should be facing east for the orientation of the sun.and avoiding the afternoon sun.
and lots more....
