my mom used to teach me that to make an old coin shine, rub it with wood ash. keep rubbing an you get the shine you desired. Tried it before but not recently.
rub it wd toothpaste (paste ah, dili gel.. kanang white color) then add more baking soda if u want..

my suggestion bro,although im not an expert in coins,i think its better to leave it that way. cool and priceless...
for silver coins, use a cloth and rub it with ashes from burnt paper, wood or cigarette to make them shine. for gold coin that is tarnished, it can be clean by a goldsmith.
