    Default Globe DSL connection sharing

    Has anyone tried using a different dsl modem aside from the one supplied by Globe which is the speedtouch 330 usb modem?

    I saw in the internet using dlink dsl-500t to connect to Globe but there are some issues

    Can globe dsl users give any comment on this?

    The USB modem was supplied by Globe to prevent sharing but I don't think its the right policy...do they want you to get 2 dsl lines for 2 PC in a house

    I am thinking of getting a dsl router with LAN but I'm afraid of compatibility issues....

    Thank you all...

    You can still share your DSL w/ other PC using Windows Networking (XP/2000) but the PC behind
    the DSL should be ON all the time for sharing. On the other hand, if you able to connect your DSL
    modem (ethernet base, not USB), then, using a DSL router should be ok. It will be used instead of a
    dedicated PC as a server. You'll configure the DSL router to connect to your DSL account on PLDT either
    PPPoE/A or DHCP (i guess its PPPoE on PLDT's case) through the DSL modem, and you'll have an internernal
    IP for your shared internet through your LAN's switch ethernet port.

    PLDT --- tel line ---o-- DSL modem --- ethernet --- DSL router/switch =====> multiple PC.

    using the USB:

    PLDT --- tel line ---o--- DSL modem --- USB --- PC (server) --- ethernet --- HUB/switch ====> multiple PC.

    hope this helps.

    Thanks but im on Globe.
    I understand PLDT doesn't give you USB dsl modem...only Globe does it as explained earlier...

    I don't want my PC to act as server...I need a dsl router with ethernet

    ah, but still the same, so you need an ethernet base DSL modem to have your DSL router work. If you can
    make the dlink dsl-500t work consistenly... there should be no problem installing DSL router!

    I'm using right now a SpeedStream DSL modem, ethernet base and Linksys Broadband Router w/ Wifi... works
    great.

    goodluck!

    regarding the dsl router....GLobe gives you a DSL modem that is usb...I haven't heard of a usb router....They mention replacing the Globe dsl modem....Does anybody have an experience replacing the Globe dsl modem with off-the-shelf dsl modem?
