Haven't posted in quite a while.

I am an Electrical Engineer having a 6 months exp as a production operator, 1 year as a full time teacher and then 2 years as a contractual/pro-b Cadet Engineer in a certain corporation (right now I am still in the said corporation but I only have 4 months left). Sadly, pahumanay na akong cadetship program pero wala ko nakakuha ug position kay tungod aning palakasay ug next of kin na gina practice in some companies.

I have been applying to so many companies during the time na 10 months left nalang ako contract and so far only first interview rako taman or inig human sa second interview e ask ka "do you know anyone in this corporation?", "do you have a relative?" which basically means kinsa akong backer and sadly either classmates na dili pang manager ila position or simply kaila lang jud.

Naa unta koy close friend sa una na isa siya sa mga supervisors sa company iyaha unta kong backeran and then I had high hopes na makasulod ko pero sadly, once again, lahi ang nakasulod and it is someone that has a relative pero dili same ug apilyedo. After 6 months murag ka surrenderon nako ug pangapply but my parents still urged me na mu apply gihapon bisag asa.. but still waiting for vancies or job postings.

In the 6 months pud nakog pangita ug work, I stumbled on a website called Udemy and didto ko nag sugod ug learn ug Web Development and Digital Marketing. So far nalingaw ko ug study sa pagka Web Developer (which might be my passion kay if dili ko ma engineer, I considered something in programming) and still studied sa Digital Marketing pero at a slower pace kay I was not so interested.

Would you guys consider adding (not changing) a career para ma diversify inyo skillset? or focus ramo sa inyo na graduate-an and use that as your forever job? Kay na feel man gud nako na murag nag saturate na ang market in most jobs or just this practice na "palakasay" or "next of kin" ang naka-apan ngano di dayun makakuha ug work (or at least thats what I think?). Nangita lang pud kog way na inig kahuman sa akong contract as much as possible dili ko matambay kay lain kaayo ang feeling pila ka months ma tambay.

i do not see why not. To give you an example, most Uni degrees here in Australia do not fare better getting a job within the first 4 months as compared to those who took non uni degress (comparable to vocational courses in the Phils) like in TAFE. ANother example is from someone i know who graduated aeronautical engg along with 81 of his classmates and within 4 months only 5 of them got a job including him and one is a fighter pilot.

THere will always be uni degress that are in demand like in medicine, but overall, vocational courses are always more in demand and depending on the situation of the country. Longer lifespan na ang pop in Australia ug nanaghan ang population , so ni indemand ang aged care ug child care.


My point is, when the needs change, the demands change, the need to adapt is inevitable. unless you cannot be happy that you would rather struggle doing what you love(which is fine if it makes the person happy), or choose otherwise to suppot yourself or your family.


i purchase courses in Udemy and VImeo as well.

Currently in AUstralia, they have programs that allow for unemployed people to get into training courses to help them with new skillsets as well. I remember the Phils have these programs too, i just wish that its a nationwide program (if it isnt yet)

Kani man gud ang stigma sa katiguwangan anang mo ingon nga "wala magamit ang kurso". Ang tinuod lang gyud ana bro, ang rason nganong naay trabaho is para mokita ka ug kwarta para mabuhi nimo ang imong kaugalingon ug ang imong pamilya. Para maka pahuway na pud ang imong mga mama ug papa nga mag sustento nimo.

Adding a career or skillset will always yield benefits para nimo, take it. Pero at the same time, it doesn't preclude you from finding other jobs para mabuhi ka. Fresh grad ko sa una, bag-ong pasar, halos 7 months ko nag sigeg pangitag trabaho.
At the same time, nagtrabaho kog shop isip helper, and I found nothing wrong with it.

Akong silingan before, Engineer, nanupi, para lang naay kita. After pila ka buwan nakitag trabaho sa gawas. I would assume malipayon na siya karon ug nikita nag daku2x nga sueldo.

Sa ako lang tanaw, as long as wala ka mangawat, wala ka magbuhat ug illegal, bisan unsa panang trabaho-a, mosulod ko, as long as mokita kog kwarta para mabuhi ko. Ang uban diha mga nurse, manarbaho crew sa food industry, or sa mall, while nag wait pa ug other job opportunities nga mo fit sa ilang kurso.

I don't see anything wrong with it gyud. Basta wala kay gi perwisyo sa imong trabaho, go!

The era of the renaissance man has already ended. Nowadays we need people who specialize in their field. If you know the statistics, we are lagging behind other countries in our production of specialists. By specialists, I mean Masters and Ph.D. degree holders who are actually producing novel researches or inventions. Salary may be relative and field-specific, but people with higher degrees tend to earn more. There are degrees that you can mix and blend. Business degrees can help if you want to go into business (e.g. MBA, DBA). Education degrees can help if you want to teach or go into the academe (e.g. MAEd, EdD). You can just augment what you have with how you perceive to move on.

Any advices or suggestions so far?

My only advice is to follow your passion. If you do what you love, you won't work a day in your life. You are living your life. We already have a lot of labor-skills mismatches because of our culture.
