STORAGE VENDOR Western Digital has released a range of 7mm hard drives targeted at ultrabooks.
Western Digital has shrunk its middle-of-the-range Scorpio Blue hard drives to a height of 7mm, meaning the 2.5in drives can fit into thin and light ultrabooks. The firm said the SATA3 hard drives have a single platter and come in 320GB and 500GB capacities.
Matt Rutledge, VP and GM for client storage products at Western Digital said, "Consumers want thin and light personal computers, but the limited storage capacity of SSD-based notebooks forces them to pick and choose what files to bring from their library.
"With the release of the new Western Digital Scorpio Blue 7 mm mobile hard drives, Western Digital is able to offer capacity, reliability and data-protection features combined with excellent power management all in a slim form factor perfect for thin and light notebooks."
Western Digital claims the hard drives can withstand 400G shocks and are quiet to boot.
