You can never go wrong if you follow the course of nature....
it's not only the processor that counts, you should also consider graphic card and more memory. for cpu, anything above 1.3 ghz would do be it amd or pentium 4 as for graphic card, you might as well consider ELSA SYNERGY II (32 mb) it is considered one of the best in cad-cam as well as 3d rendering. for memory you should have at least 256mb ( the more the better) and last but not the least, your hard disk should be at least 7200rpm with 30 gb coz 39 rendering and vdeo editing
requires a very large storage space prior to burning on a cd or any other removable device.
if you don't want any hassle and have lots of money, then go for MACS.
Thanks, you have enlightened me.....

that sum's up the issue indeed.
infact, when the processor hit more than 2g. it's the video card and hard disk that matters the most. since this components would represent future bottlenecks in the application.
ok.........if you can really afford the best computer, then why not buying the best......but if you are financially unstable you should be friendly of your old unit, it might crushes before you boot........
THE ONLY LIVING iSTORYA...
I'd say go for an AMD Athlon (i'm biased towards Athlons) Games = Real Time Rendering... anyway, let the benchmarks speak

Athlons here. i always render long time frames from 3dsmax or autoviz. and between Intel and AMD my AMD beats my friends high end intel system
get the all-in-wonder 9700 pro...that should start u off...
then the motherboard which would have to be an epox 8rda+...
prices of amd processors(athlonxp 1700-2000) hit rock bottom so its a good time to get 1=)
actually for rendering vidcard aint that much of a help, during modeling the vid card is a life saver
for real time rendering, video cards are a lot of help... modeling can make use of real time rendering but it is not a must.... you can model using wireframe and then render your piece to see how it looks like... but for optimal efficiency, go for the optimal setup...
