I made this thread so that I can ask you my fellow Filipino forumers and friends... its time for us to put down our hatchets and swords.. and stand UNITED... against our true enemies... the illegitimate BAP and its officials...

With the recent so-called FIBA "Special Commission"... I smell another suspension... and for us... another suspension is UNACCEPTABLE... We will not accept it.. FIBA doesn't know that a suspension will hurt not only the SBP and the basketball stakeholders that support it but also the Filipino people.. we are not just in the Philippines... we are everywhere..

Its time for us to unite, no more quarrells and arguements .. I want you guys to post your ideas here.. anything you want to be included in the petition... don't be shy... in this fight.. no realist, no patriots, no newbies, no old-timers, we are all in this together... We're all Filipinos!

My plan is to start a new petition and get as many signatures as we can... the minimum target is 1,000,000 signatures and the possible maximum of 5,000,000 .... this is to show FIBA we are serious... and once we get enough signatures... we'll draft a letter and send to FIBA and to all friendly basketball federations around the world... and tell them that we need their support.. and tell FIBA that we Filipinos support and recognize the legitimacy of SBP..

    Cheers!

To: Basketball Association of the Philippines

To the Basketball Association of the Philippines: Stop this madness right now!

We, the undersigned, are petitioning the Basketball Association of the Philippines to stop meddling with the affairs of the Philippine basketball community.

Throughout its years of existence, the BAP has not done anything concrete for the betterment of the sport in the country. It has been consistently sending teams composed of has-beens and third-tier players from unknown leagues to represent the Philippines in international competitions. The BAP also has no grassroots presence, except for pocket tournaments few and far between. The Youth program, formerly the pride of the country, has been tarnished by recent debacles.

Recently, it has been taken over by politicians seeking to further their ambitions, and who know next to nothing about the state of the sport in the country. The names Pichay and Villafuerte, both traditional politicians, are involved. Also with the discredited BAP is Graham Lim, who was declared an undesirable alien by the local courts but has yet to be deported.

The Samahang Basketball ng Pilipinas, on the other hand, has been formulating a massive grassroots development program starting from the Youth Level up to the qualifiers for the World Championships and Olympics. The teams it has been sending have been faring much better than the mediocre BAP-assembled teams.

Recently, the BAP took the issue to a Manila court, who ruled that the SBP was not the legitimate association for the sport. This is contrary to the principles of sport, and of the Tokyo and Bangkok Communiques which were signed by representatives of both the BAP and the SBP precursor, Pilipinas Basketball, prior to the birth of SBP.

We, the undersigned, do not agree with the route that the BAP has taken and continues to take. Philippine basketball can only get better; the BAP is getting in the way of its development.

    STOP BAP NOW!

    Sincerely,

    The Undersigned

To the Basketball Association of the Philippines: Stop this madness right now! Petition

    Lim tells SBP: Don’t panic

    By Arman Armero

BASKETBALL Association of the Philippines secretary-general Graham Lim has advised leaders of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas to allow the Fiba special commission to investigate and not to go into panic mode with regards the recent move of the world governing body for basketball.

“I think the SBP should respect the Fiba special commission and allow them to investigate what is happening to basketball in the country. There’s no need to panic. If they claim that they are the legitimate basketball body here, why are they frothing in the mouth like it’s the end of the world for them?” Lim asked.

The BAP official was reacting to a series of articles and paid advertisements that came out in some dailies saying that SBP president Manuel V. Pangilinan and other SBP officials were “disgusted” by the decision of the Fiba to form a commission that will investigate whether there was a violation in the Bangkok Agreement that led to the creation of the SBP and the disenfranchisement of the BAP.

“They know and we know that they have distorted the provisions of the Bangkok Agreement. Maraming violations du’n. The mere fact na tinanggal nila ‘yung BAP from the original BAP-SBP merger was a violation in itself,” Lim added. “Kahit Grade 1 maiintidihan ang ibig sabihin ng BAP-SBP. It’s supposed to be a merger, pero ayaw nila kami kasama. Gusto nila sila sila lang. ‘Yan ang ayaw ng Fiba. At ‘yan ang aayusin ng special commission.”

Lim also took exception to the statement allegedly made by Pangilinan that the Philippines has been dragged into 64th place under his (Lim) watch.

“That’s rubbish. The BAP is a member of the Fiba since 1936 and now they’re saying that the country has dropped to 64th place under my watch. Let me remind them that under our watch, we never lost the title in the Seaba or in the SEA Games, except for the pro league team that competed in the Asian level.

“Besides, Oceania has 21 countries, Africa has 53, Americas has 33, Asia has 44 and Europe used to have 49 members, but because of Yugoslavia’s breakup into five or six, they now have more than 54 countries. Is 64th place a bad placing?

“I would say that it was under Mr. Pangilinan’s watch which dragged us deeper into 65th place, because they even lost in the Seaba last year. In Seaba, we tried to develop new players coming from the collegiate and amateur ranks, but now they’re using pros because they’re afraid of losing,” Lim said.

Lim said for the past 70 years, the BAP has been fulfilling its mandate to assist all the leagues that need their help.

“We’re here to help anybody who needs our help. That’s why our membership has grown bigger over the years. This is not a battle of which group has more money, but which group has more members who support each other. They are talking as if they are the only ones who can save basketball in the country. That’s an affront to the BAP members from all over the country who have been serving basketball for years. Ang SBP lang ba ang may karapatan magsilbi sa bayan dahil sila ang may pera?”
