Default Ngano Kusog Mo Discriminate and Cebuano Musicians?

I asked my friend who is a metal bassist to play with me this year because i haven o bassitst and he refused because he said he's ashamed of my music. He don't wanna be seen onstage or associate himself of recording some folk/bluegrass/americana...

I just dont understand. While in the U.S. people from the opposite pole of the music genre do collaborate. I mean look at Switchfoot's Jon Foreman now collaborating with bluegrasser Sean Watkins. And they do it out of pure adventure and fun and not by some label negotiations (both artists are now unsigned).

Then there's Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine doing folk songs as The Nighwatchmen.

and James Hetfield of Metallica on CMT singing with Jessi Colter.

Then Sebastian Bach of Skid Row releasing a country song.

But the most open minded of them all is Kid Rock who seems to combine all genre in one album...

But here in the philippines i often heard a lot of discrimination. Like they dont wanna associate with the hiphops cause they are metal or they don't wanna come near to the emos cause they are punk (without their knowing that emotive hardcore was an offspring of hardcore punk during the 80s). In fact these people who called themselves punsters aren't really punk at all because they are still following a certain image. Punk originally meant to do it yourself and not to comform to the norm but here they are these so called punksters calling themselves punk because they wear their hair as such and they behaved as such and etc...

well, in your friend's case, he probably just dont like playing with your kind of music. basin ang imo naka storya were those close minded or feel good posers..hehe... some people just like to segregate themselves and likes to be attached on a certain group that inlines on the same ideas as they are. its just a matter of preferences and how dedicated they are. not necessarily all. But to tell it like all cebuano musicians like to discriminate is a very strong statement.

i myself have three bands which is all active and on different genres. i play bass on a Metal, a Trip-Hop, and a shoegaze band and so are my friends. i new allot of people whose into a certain genre and likes to keep it that way. say this guy from an alternative band doesnt want to jam with my other friend because he was into metal and he find it hard to listen to. pero its ok things like that kay understandable raman sad cguro.. you cant force people to like or atleast try to like what you like. although sometimes ang pag approach pud sa pag decline sa uban can be menacing sad.. someone ive asked before declined me kay yawa2x kuno ako tukar. hehe

    yup ingana jud.

me i dont have a permanent band. i focus on lyrics man gud so i write and record mostly acoustic rock and americana folk and country. pero one time i became a guitarist/screamer of a nu-metal band back in bohol pag 1st yr college before i tranferred here in cebu to continue my college.

i wanna try bluegrass kaso ala ko nakitan fiddler/violinist and mandolin player. k raman gihapon bluegrass if three piece lang, a bassist, a guitarist, and another guitar pero lahi ra jud if naa fiddle, mandolin, and banjo.

i heard that bluegrass tribute to metallica by iron horse. nindotan ko sa driving rhythm but mas nice if they put some fiddle in it.

lisod kaayo e pangita og mo trip og bluegrass diri gud since wala kaayo na brought up ang kana nga type of music diri. although ive seen a bluegrass band before sa Casino Espaņol. sa Waterfront usahay kay naa mo tukar og bluegrass sa lobby.

i like Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. d gyud noun siya pure pero ayos pud.g fuse nila ang jazz sa bluegrass..

naa di ay bluegrass band mitukar sa casino espanyol? la ko kabalo ana dah hehehe

nahan ko chris thile pero d lang ma reach ky grabeh ka technical tawhana moplay hehehe. i like traditional bluegrass.

di man daw sya maglisod. di lang jud daw sya ganahan mo play that kind of music ky "tiniguwang" daw hehehe. so i burned him a mixdisc of young bluegrass/newgrass artists.

    ...

if i cant play bluegrass i rather stick to my hank williams/bob dylan/willie nelson/ryan adams/steve earle/gin blossoms approach hehehe.

because they're not really true musicians.

they do music out of envy, fun, and sakay sa uso. if you are a true musician, you won't discriminate. taas kag respeto to your fellow musician no matter what genre.

Thats his decision. If your bassist don't like it... why even bother? Find another person who likes playing it.
